Injured Yadav out of Nagpur Test too

Fast bowler Umesh Yadav is unlikely to be fit in time for final match of the India-England Test series, which begins in Nagpur on December 13, as he is taking longer than originally expected to recover from a lower-back injury.

With India all but certain to reach Nagpur in a must-win situation, this comes as a blow for an Indian attack that that has been plundered over the last two Tests. Yadav was the pick of India's fast bowlers in the first Test in Ahmedabad, but was then ruled out with injury for "at least for 10 days".

The prognosis for the injury has been ambiguous; while one specialist had put forward the 10-day recuperation period, another had advised him rest for three months. Now, a day before the selectors are to choose the squad for the final Test, ESPNcricinfo has learnt that the fast bowler will surely be unavailable for the game. He is also unlikely to recover in time for the England Twenty20s and the Pakistan limited-overs series' that follow.

"This will be disappointing for him not just because it [the Nagpur game] is his home Test, but also because the team needs him badly," a source said, adding it would be "a miracle" if he features in the Pakistan series.

With Yadav unavailable, Sandeep Patil and his colleagues in the selection panel don't have much to choose from as far as pace bowling is concerned. But it remains to be seen if the selectors take tough calls on a batting line-up that has faltered time and again in the series.

Gambir should be shown the door. After winning the IPL he wanted to be the captain!!Just the attitude these guys have is clearly showing on the results.Players like Gambir and Sehwag with their attitude towards test cricket leaves a lot to be desired.Wasim Akram was right when he said players earning 3 crores for a IPL season so who wants to play test cricket.I want to see this side loose 3-1 and then see who's axed because not accepting defeat and blaming the pitches is clearly taking Indian cricket to no10 ranking status.

Ashwins poor bowling covered by his batting, we dont need it,, Ashwin cant play in the team on batting, he has been pathetic with the ball, Bhajji stil better than him anyday... oja is also mediocre.. Mishra much better than him

india has two of the fastest bowlers currently in the world umesh yadav and varun aaron. and couple of really good budding fast medium bowler namely parvinder awana. and some good bowlers like RPsingh irfan pathan etc. then why are we still lugging around with a rubbish bowler like ZAK, who cant even bowl 120 kmph under best of conditions. and instead of giving chance to good spinners like amit mishra we are playing a decent (hge is still not a good spinner . has a time to go) spinner ashwin being a spear head of the attack. and with bhajji ouit of sorts. isnt it time to bring some bowlers who have realy spunk in them. and we should rest yuvraj as becoming match fit needs time. and as for sachin he should play more. he should accept he is aging and to stay match fit he should be more in touch with game in stead of resting. no offense to him but he should play ranji matches so atleast he doesnt need time to get back in form. him out of from puts a lot of pressure on pujara and kohli

Wonder why the Indian selectors have such a short memory especially when it concerns the Pathan brothers. Have they forgotten that Irfan has been amongst wickets even when Zak went almost wicketless. It is not enough to just contain, you have to take wickets & Irfan has been doing a fantastic job of it. Similarly Yousuf was the go to bowler for Dhoni during the world cup in India. Yes! Yousuf has had a bad season this year in IPL, but then all great players have gone through similar patches. Guess what! I am sure Ravindra Jadeja would be back in the India team soon due to his 3 triple hundreds. (though the fact that he got them against mediocre teams on very flat tracks would not matter). It's high time Dhoni got a break from Captaincy as well. He should bad at no.3 & not worry of the responsibilities which come with his title. Remember, he cam on the India cricket scene with a fantastic century & outscored Sehwag. Gambir would make a good makeshift captain.

Who not play Sandeep Sharma and Awana in the next test? Zaheer has skill alright but is pathetic as he chases the ball all the way to boundary. And this guy Jivanjot from Punjab is a great prospect. And last but not least, how about the one day specialist Ravindra Jadeja for test matches? 3 triple tons..

/why keeping dinda in abeyance? Whenhe proved he is among wickets thenwhy should be ishant preferred? neither the coach nor the captain is out of ideas or solutions. it is high time selectors use their good offices to set right things by taking bold steps like Australian/English Cricket selectors.

Show Dhoni the door first, for God's sake. He's neither a brilliant tactician as captain, nor a particularly outstanding wicket-keeper, nor does he shine batting. Let him stick to the T20 and IPL. And thanks, BCCI for the IPL and for destroying Test cricket in India.

That's a real shame. I'm not sure that Yadav would be a match-winner but I'd like India to have their best players available. They need to improve in all areas so his presence would likely help as i expect him to be a significant performer for many years. One name I haven't heard mentioned for a while is Varun Aaron. Can any of our Indian friends enlighten me as to what's happened to him since India's last tour of England? I know that he had at least one injury but what's his current status?

Yadev's absence will be a huge loss for this club level Indian bowling team which is trying to compete at the Test level. Flogging a dead horse like ZAK or Harbhajan will never yield any dividends. Aaron was bowling at 140 KPH but he was ignored & Yadev alone pushed forward. It is time to bring him back, if Fit. 3 changes are needed with an eye on the future. Tendulkar, ZAK,Yuvraj must give way to Tiwary,Irfan Pathan & Jadeja. These 3 are all good batsmen, excellent fielders & better than part time bowlers. if Irfan is unfit, P.Singh or Sandeep Sharma are alternates.Clearly Yuvraj is not 100% in health. In the batting order Kohli should be sent at #3 & Pujara #4. This might help Kohli to be more confident because he prospered at #3. India needs a specialist RH right arm leg spinner in the squad. If A.Mishra & R.Sharma are not acceptable, coach Tiwary for this role. Ojha,Ashwin+2 seamers, supported by a RH leg spinner provides more variety to bowling. It is insane to go with Present squad!
