Paul Valthaty, the Mumbai batsman whose form with the bat for Kings XI Punjab during this year's IPL put him in the spotlight, has said he is looking forward to playing for Himachal Pradesh in the upcoming Indian domestic season. His move to Himachal Pradesh is subject to the Mumbai Cricket Association providing him with a No-Objection Certificate, for which he has applied.
If the move goes through, Valthaty will be playing in the Ranji Trophy Plate League since Himachal were relegated from the Super League after finishing bottom of their group last season.
"Personally leaving Mumbai will be tough; after all my entire life has been based here, including my cricket. But when I got an offer from Himachal, I decided to move on," Valthaty told Sportsline. "It will be a good opportunity for me to showcase my talent and I'm looking forward to the upcoming season. My IPL performance has certainly boosted my confidence and I want to continue the good work."
Valthaty's decision comes soon after he was named vice-captain of Mumbai's 15-man squad for the Buchi Babu All-India Invitational that will be held later this month. Valthaty is yet to play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and has represented the team in only one List A game, against Baroda in 2006. Following his headline-grabbing century against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, Valthaty was engaged in a tussle with Sachin Tendulkar for the top spot on the run-scorers' charts, before finishing the league at No. 6 with 463 runs from 14 games.
Vishal Marwaha, the joint-secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, said the organisation was waiting on the NOC. "He [Valthaty] is yet to submit his NOC, but we are hopeful to get it at the earliest. The way he performed during the IPL has certainly shown his talent and we are confident that he will deliver for us."

I am Glad cricinfo are keeping up with the progression of Paul. He is a super player, and i think hes defo one to watch out for, he has some natural talent and he certainly has a cricketing brain, his positve-ness is something India may need in the dressing room.
Posted byValthaty is a promising player and with more exposure to domestic cricket his game can only improve. If he can only work a little more on his technique and movement of his feet I am quite sure that he will one day play for India in all three formats. All the Best Paul Valthaty!
Posted by yoogi on (August 10, 2011, 8:43 GMT)Frankly, if he plays for mumbai, we will find out whether IPL performance is comparable to Ranji Super League. If he plays for HP and fails, we know where the quality of IPL stands. Beatiful camera work doesnt mean quality cricket. I wish he plays for mumbai and succeeds. But it is always his preference that should be respected.
Posted byGood , hope he does well, he has a lot of talent
Posted by tiket on (August 9, 2011, 17:16 GMT)good decsion by himachal cricket association.hope mumbai give him NOC.
Posted byHe must've really enjoyed himself in Dharamsala during the IPL to consider moving! Welcome to Himachal, Paul!
Posted by StraightHit on (August 9, 2011, 16:32 GMT)Good for him. Since HP is a weak team, PV will be tested fully both for technique and mental strength as expectations are high after IPL4. If he succeeds, he can provide a good back up for Shewag.

Posted byIt is encouraging sign for cricketers who are good enough to play for their state, but cannot get into the team due to several reasons. There are several cricketers in India who can easily play as pro (like Akash Chopra, H. Kanitkar) to continue their passion of playing first class.
Posted byGood Move.. Wasim Jaffer is not a big Fan of his talent.. So needs to plan career somewhere else..
