Javed Miandad has turned down the role of Pakistan's batting coach due to personal reasons, the team manager Intikhab Alam has said. Miandad had said earlier that he would consider taking up the job after Pakistan's tour of West Indies, which begins on April 18.

"The Pakistan team surely needs a batting coach and the board approached Miandad, but he unfortunately declined the offer because of personal reasons," Alam said. "But I am sure that he will help the players in the near future."

Miandad was approached by Shahid Afridi and PCB chairman Ijaz Butt following a shaky performance in the World Cup, during which there was no Pakistan batsman in the top 20 run-scorers list. Miandad, who has had three stints as Pakistan's head coach and is a director with the PCB, had said in early April that he would not travel with the team to the West Indies, but would work with the batsmen before their departure, as he did for Pakistan's tour of New Zealand last year.

Reacting to Miandad refusing the post, Afridi said the board should look for "other batting greats" to take up the role. "If he [Miandad] is not available, then the board can hire other batting greats that this country has produced, or even look at a foreign batting coach," he said. "Pakistan cricket has to move on and it is not as if we have produced just one great batsman in the past."

Inzamam ul Haq with 8,830 TEST RUNS and 11,739 ODI Runs is the best choice ....

Javed Miandad should not refuse the proposal if he is the patriot. He should contribute about the technique of batting to the young, energetic players of pakistan. There are so many legend like Javed in the Pakistan.Javed Miandad should be happy with this proposal. Everyone can't get the chance to do something for the country. PCB can't wait long time for his decision. PCB should look for another person to be a batting coach for Pakistan team. Pls go ahead...

i think Inzimam would be a good choice, so that youngsters would learn some character and manners along with batting from him, he is such a great batsman but even more he is down to earth kinda person, would love to see him coaching Pakistan team

Mohammad yousuf would be better option if he retires because zaheer abbas and all left playing cricket 20 years ago their tecnuiques would be outdated

Inzamam may teach them more religion than batting and of course the batsmen might learn how to be run out. They might be slow in the fielding too. A very poor choice.

Imran Khan is too big a name to coach Pakistan for a captain like Afridi and manager like Intikhab Alam. You need to change the set up and bring a totally new set up. If Imran was PCB Chair/chief selector and Miandad the coach, Pakistan would have easily won the world cup. With Afridi the captain, I do not think, there will be much improvement. He does not have a big heart of a captain. W Younus does not have the guts to direct his captain. It is the imbalance in the Pak team and management that is ruining the team. It is good to see Miandad not taking the coaching job. At least he sent a message. Put Imran, Miandad and Sayeed Anwar in charge, Pak will beat any team. Administration, vision plus talent =super success. Just see India now under SA coach.
