It is not being pessimistic to predict that Sri Lanka have a long way to go to be the force they were with their main man Murali- it is being realistic. Without Murali, and once Sanga and Mahela also retire, it will take a lot to be better than what WI turned out to be. All this "fighting spirit" comments are nice to hear, but let's not forget the horror of a year they experienced after Murali retired.
Posted by Fast_Track_Bully on (June 26, 2012, 4:48 GMT)It was also Sri Lanka's third Test victory since the retirement of Muttiah Muralitharan in 2010. - that says everything!.
Posted by siriherath on (June 26, 2012, 4:11 GMT)It's too obvious that Sri Lanka still has large spaces to fill in the bowling department, to become even close to formidable. However strong your batting line-up is, it wouldn't win matches if you are struggling to take 20 wickets a time. SL needs 3 to 4 fast/fast-medium bowlers plus another 2 as back up, who can provide the variety in pace, swing and seam. Coupled with this, the spin bowlers too need to have an assortment of attack and tactic. Only then can SL be able to compete with the best here and abroad. Despite this win, SL have some way to go.
Posted byGreat stats for Younus Khan , where are the greats of the world cricket were not good enough he has proved his worth . Hihgest average in fourth innings who have scored more then 1000 runs and many more to come . the way his stats show he may be achieve the recored of highest number of centuries in world cricket in 4th innnings , I expect many more to come
Posted by samweera83 on (June 25, 2012, 18:43 GMT)Pls don't be so pessimistic. Don't always see the bad side of things. I think Mahela has done a remarkable job as the captain. By far he is the best we have got (outside of Arjuna). Matches are won due to individuals they are won by team work ( at least on a sustainable basis), and with a great leader that consistency can be brought to the team. Forget about Murali, that era is gone ( with all due respect for him, and even little bit more). We should all whole heartedly support the teams resurgence and expect the youngsters to take the onus as a one cohesive unit and perform. Congratulations and all the very best for Mahela and the team, well done boys.
Posted bySri Lankans will never be weak as the WI. And Sri Lanka have done well outside of the subcontinent when compared to India and Pakistan. See the ODI results in SA and AUS. Sri Lankans are whole hearted cricketers and come what may, they will play as lions always do - roaring.
Posted byThere were so many decisions that went against Sri Lanka too, specially LBW's not given
Posted byYes there were bad umpiring decisions, no Misbah; give a bit of credit to the Sri Lankan bowlers who bowled well to get 20 wickets in the match, not long ago people were saying that Sri Lanka will not be able to get 20 wickets without Murali. They've proven that there is some strength in their ranks. They just need to show them the correct direction and they can become world beaters and show that they are not dependent on just one man. So far this has been the best series for Sri Lanka after the world cup loss.
Posted by MasudRUETeee091040 on (June 25, 2012, 16:24 GMT)Srilanka is doing well in home but they need to prove themselves outside of subcontinents.
Posted by Sinhaya on (June 25, 2012, 15:13 GMT)Hope UDRS can be used for the remained of the series. Umpiring was horrendous but still Sri Lanka was the better side and would have won this.
