At Johannesburg, October 16, 2011. South Africa won by three wickets. Toss: Australia. Twenty20 international debut: M. R. Marsh.
South Africa soared to an unlikely victory on the even unlikelier wings of Parnell and Theron. They were 64 runs adrift when the eighth-wicket pair came together in the 15th over, yet made it across the line with five balls to spare. White exhausted all his frontline bowling options in search of the elusive wicket, and Theron slog-swept Hussey's first ball of the last over for the winning six. The game had been Australia's for the taking. Though Tsotsobe delivered the most economical figures for a South African in Twenty20 internationals, White and the Marsh brothers grabbed runs by the handful, and a series victory was within sight when Cummins reduced South Africa to 18 for three in the fourth over, bowling Ingram off the inside edge and having Duminy brilliantly caught at slip by Hussey. Pattinson struck twice in quick succession as South Africa stumbled to 84 for seven, but then came the final twist.
Man of the Match: J. Theron.
