India's top cricketers wound up a fitness and conditioning camp in Bangalore on Monday, ahead of a hectic international schedule which includes consecutive triangular one-day tournaments in Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. They will re-assemble on Wednesday, however, for a shortened skills-specific session under the direction of their new coach, Greg Chappell.
During the camp, the players sweated it out in morning and afternoon sessions, with yoga, fitness drills, exercises and other onfield activities all aimed towards preparing them for the rigours of international cricket.
India's trainer, Gregory King, and their physio, John Gloster, had a major say in this camp, but from now on, it will be Chappell who takes centre stage as the final phase of the camp unfolds.
The cricketers, who attended the camp at the National Cricket Academy, said the last few days had been fulfilling and they had been able to raise the bar vis-a-vis fitness levels. Australia's pace guru, Dennis Lillee, and a kinesiologist, Charles Krebs, also held some sessions with the cricketers, mainly the fast bowlers.
