Former England wicketkeeper Jack Russell, 40, has signed an extension to his contract which means he will continue to play for Gloucestershire until at least the end of the 2005 season.
Mark Alleyne, Gloucestershire's player-coach, explained the decision to offer Russell the new deal. "Jack is still the best in the business, is our best option for wicketkeeper-batsman and deserves another year," he said. "His enthusiasm is as strong as ever - and adding that to his undoubted ability means he will continue to make a huge contribution to the team. I am very pleased that he will be playing for us next year."
