Xavier Marshall has been included in a 29-man training squad announced by the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) for the upcoming regional first-class season.
Marshall, along with Tonito Willett of Leeward Islands, failed a drugs test conducted earlier this month. Both were part of the 32 probables from which the Stanford Superstars squad will be picked to play England in the US$20 million Stanford 20/20 for 20 match on November 1.
JCA president Jackie Hendriks said Marshall would be up for selection for the regional one-day tournament scheduled for November. "We are certainly moving to ensure that these sort of things are things of the past. We are certainly trying to help in every way we can," he told the Jamaica Gleaner.
Meanwhile, Brenton Parchment, Shawn Findlay, David Bernard, Carlton Baugh and Nikita Miller, have also been picked by the selection panel chaired by Ruddy Williams.
Chris Gayle, Jerome Taylor and Darren Powell, who are part of the Stanford Superstars camp in Antigua, are expected to join the squad on October 18, along with Damion Henry, Gary Graham, Dwight Stewart and Ransford Merchant, for the start of the trials which will continue from October 17 to 26 at Sabina Park.
Among the notable absentees is Wavell Hinds, who finished playing his first season of a three-year Kolpak contract with Derbyshire. Ruddy Williams said though Hinds joined the unofficial ICL, he was overlooked in order to encourage young talent.
Jermaine Lawson was left out due to the illness that forced him to abort his season with Leicestershire, while Marlon Samuels is serving an ICC ban for alleged match-fixing.
