†PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA 1981-82

At Lahore, March 29

15-Apr-1983
At Lahore, March 29. Sri Lanka won on faster scoring-rate. Sri Lanka, electing to field first, removed Mohsin Khan in the sixth over, but Zaheer Abbas, twice dropped early on, again batted freely. After Mudassar Nazar and Javed Miandad, brilliantly run out by Goonatillake, had left in quick succession, Haroon Rashid helped Zaheer to add 122 in eighteen overs. Zaheer's innings, lasting 32 overs, included three 6s and fifteen 4s. Despite an economical opening spell by Imran and Sikander, Sri Lanka were soon scoring well, with 21 runs coming from Tahir's third over. Dias again excelled with powerful driving, hitting twelve 4s in his 81, scored off 60 balls, and he and Mendis put on 73 inside ten overs. Madugalle kept up the scoring-rate, the last two overs before bad light stopped play - bowled by Sikander and Imran - producing 21 runs. At that point Sri Lanka needed 13 runs off seven overs, and they won the match with an overall scoring-rate of 6.87 runs per over against Pakistan's 5.97.
Man of the Match: R. L. Dias.
