SA scrounge draw despite Boyce's seven-for

Cameron Boyce spun through seven batsmen on a turning pitch but was unable to prevent South Australia from scrounging a draw against Queensland in the Sheffield Shield match at the Glenelg Oval.

Battling innings by Michael Klinger and Sam Raphael were enough to help the Redbacks to avoid outright defeat, but Boyce's handsome figures were notable, as was the manner in which he claimed them, gaining expansive spin at times with men crouched around the bat.

The Bulls began the day with only slim hope of forcing an outright result after establishing a 78-run, first-innings advantage, and for most of the afternoon their efforts to force a rush of wickets were frustrated by Klinger and Raphael. SA were aided by the unavailability of the Queensland and Australia pace spearhead Ryan Harris, due to a virus that kept him off the field.

Boyce wheeled away, eventually finding ways past Klinger and Raphael, before inciting a hint of panic among the rest of SA's batsmen to the point that with 11 overs of the match remaining the hosts led by only 75 with two wickets in hand. Chadd Sayers and Adam Zampa held firm, however, leaving Tasmania as the only side to take outright points from the opening round.
