Adrian Shaw has been appointed as Glamorgan's first team coach, replacing John Derrick in a move that had been anticipated in recent days. Steve Watkin, the former England seamer, will take on the role of performance director and the club are continuing to try and find a role with Welsh cricket for Derrick.
Glamorgan have had a barren couple of seasons and Robert Croft stepped down as captain before the end of last summer, being replaced by David Hemp, and the club are also struggling financially. They can't afford to have overseas players next season with most of their money being ploughed into ground redevelopment ahead of the 2009 Ashes.
Chief executive Mike Fatkin told the club's website: "We have spent a lot of time looking at the coaching structure. We've had a couple of disappointing seasons and it was felt that some changes were necessary.
"Adrian will bring a fresh energy to the coaching of the first XI, working alongside David Hemp, and we are keen to develop Steve Watkin's role at the club so that he is responsible for wider performance matters and also in doing more work with the first team squad.
"We are very keen to ensure that John Derrick's talents as a coach are not lost to the game in Wales and we are continuing our discussions with him about potential alternative roles. We will make an announcement on that when those discussions have been concluded."
