Simpson to lead colts

XXXX Queensland Bulls allrounder Chris Simpson will captain the Queensland Academy of Sport Colts team in next week's annual SE Gregory Cup clash with NSW at Allan Border Field.

Simpson, who also captained the Colts last year and made his first class debut for Queensland last season, will again seek to inspire his teammates to break the stranglehold NSW have had on the trophy for the past few years.

Selection in the Colts team is restricted to players under the age of 23.

The team includes Bulls squad wicket-keeper Chris Hartley, Queensland rookie-contracted players Craig Philipson and Nathan Rimmington and QAS regional squad member Peter Reimers.

Reimers, an allrounder, will link with former Toowoomba compatriot Cameron Glass in the team. Glass, who played for Queensland Country last season, is playing first grade with Western Suburbs in Brisbane this season.

Sunshine Coast left-arm paceman Chris Summers, a former Queensland U-19 player, has earned a spot, as has rangy Toombul quick Kirk Jeffes, who is in his first season of first grade.

The four-day match starts on Monday. Admission is free.
