SOUTH AFRICA v PAKISTAN

At Cape Town, January 10

15-Apr-1996
At Cape Town, January 10. South Africa won by 37 runs. Toss: Pakistan.
South Africa bowled and fielded brilliantly to defend a moderate total after Salim Malik had made a puzzling decision to field first. From 193 for four they had lost their last six wickets for 22, including three run-outs. Then Aamir Sohail hit Jack out of the attack; he conceded 29 off his first two overs. Sohail went on to 71 in 74 balls, with 11 fours, but the home bowlers dried up the supply of runs at the other end. Pressure built up, Malik and Rashid Latif were senselessly run out and Pakistan fell far short. South Africa won with seven overs to spare, a far more comfortable margin than they could have expected.
Man of the Match: E. O. Simons.
