A fired-up Shaun Tait proved too much for Queensland as South Australia ended the Bulls' hopes of reaching the Twenty20 final. Tait crashed through the Queensland top order and returned to take the final wicket as the Bulls fell disappointingly short of the Redbacks' 6 for 147.
Queensland's chase started poorly; they lost their second, third and fourth wickets in consecutive balls and in the 12th over were 7 for 58. But a late rally from Chris Simpson and Andy Bichel, who each scored 31, gave them hope and with two overs remaining they needed 21 from the last pair.
But Tait, who had already shattered Clinton Perren's stumps with a fast yorker, was on target again and bowled the No. 11 Nathan Rimmington to end the resistance. Tait, who has been out of the side for four weeks with a hamstring injury, finished with 4 for 14 from 3.2 overs.
In the field, the Redbacks were without their captain Darren Lehmann, who pulled up sharply with a hamstring injury while batting and is expected to be on the sidelines for about a month. He retired hurt on 26, the team's second-highest score after Daniel Harris gave the side a solid platform with 59 from 33 deliveries.
