5.00pm Just two outright results then in the round. Tamil Nadu and Odisha get six points each, most of the other games were first-innings results, while at the Delhi v Baroda match, even the first innings didn't come to an end. Here's a look at the latest points table.
Some of the highlights included Amol Muzumdar's twin centuries which made him the highest Ranji run-getter again, Manoj Tiwary's big hundred, Bhuvneshwar's all-round performance in Meerut, Basant Mohanty's nine-for against Haryana, Yashpal Singh making the highest score ever by a Services batsman, Uday Kaul extending his prolific run, and Ravindra Jadeja making a big impact in a Ranji game again, this time with the ball.
Thanks to Amol and Amit for their entertaining updates. And to the readers who make this blog such fun. Next round starts Saturday, see you then. Cheers!
4.50pm Stumps in the only other game, Kerala v Assam is a draw. Assam finish on 201 for 6, and they too get three points for a first-innings lead.

5.20pm Stumps in Chennai, with Maharashtra at 75 for 8.
It’s been a fun day. Manoj Tiwary gave a nudge to the national selectors with a big hundred, after which Bengal are in prime position to take an outright win. The most thrilling game was in Chennai, where first the home side’s batting collapsed, but not as spectacularly as Maharashtra, who go into stumps at 75 for 8, facing a target of 193. UP are in complete control against Karnataka thanks to Parvinder Singh’s big hundred. Delhi are facing a huge challenge, trying to overhaul Baroda’s big first-innings score, while Haryana hung on determinedly to give Odisha some anxious moments after initially seeming to be completely out of the game. Join us tomorrow for the final day's action. Ciao!
5.10pm At stumps in Meerut, Parvinder Singh is 143*, Piyush Chawla is 16* and UP are completely in charge at 343 for 5. Karnataka will, at best, look to stave off an outright defeat on the final day.
5.05pm We could have a finish in Chennai today itself

4.55pm Stumps at Dharamsala
Siddarth Ravindran
25-Feb-2013
4.55pm Stumps at Dharamsala. Paras Dogra has added another Ranji century to take Himachal to 224 for 5, still a long way behind Andhra's 372.
In Lahli, Abhimanyu Kohd has made a half-century to take Haryana to 165 for 5, which gives them a lead of 12 runs after their debacle in the first innings against Odisha.
Half-centuries from Dheeraj Jadhav and Tarjinder Singh have helped Assam reach 161 for 4, in reply to Kerala's 264.
Thanks to everyone for tuning in today, and a round of applause for the inputs through the day from Amol Karhadkar and Amit Shetty. Till tomorrow, this is Siddarth Ravindran signing out. Catch you Monday morning.

5.10pm Century for Kaif A terrific innings from Mohammad Kaif, guides UP to 236 for 7 against Karnataka

25-Feb-2013
5.10pm Century for Kaif A terrific innings from Mohammad Kaif, guides UP to 236 for 7 against Karnataka. Bhuneshwar Kumar giving him good support, with an unbeaten 30, and UP are in a much-better position after having been reduced to 40 for 4.
Railways finish the day on 193 for 7 against Punjab, another innings in which no batsman has hit a half-century.
Thanks everyone for joining us on the Ranji live blog. And thanks to Amol and Amit for the updates. See you all tomorrow, cheers!
5.00pm The last update of the day from Amol Karhadkar from Jaipur: "Ishwar Pandey helps MP end the day with something to cheer. He bowls a near-perfect delivery with the new ball - in the corridor of uncertainty, Ankit Lamba pushes at it and edges it to Naman Ojha behind the wickets. That's stumps. Rajasthan 7 for 1."

Finally an end to the round that produced three results and nine draws

Finally an end to the round that produced three results and nine draws. Well played Delhi, Assam and Punjab. Jharkhand did well too, although they ended up on the losing side. Quality of spin on a square turner in Chennai was very depressing. Only 10 wickets fell there in four days. Anyway that's the end of it. Join this blog again on the 17th for the third round. Cheers
4.59 - Finally
Writes in Amol Karhadkar from Pune: "And it's finally over. Bhuvneshwar Kumar finishes the game with two successive sixes off Akshay Darekar. UP 669 for 7
Points: Maha 1, UP 1" UP joint leaders with seven. Maharashtra get one from their opener
"Reading comprehension is in rather short supply at Cricinfo, it seems. Daljit Singh says "550 in first innings" and somehow those words have been twisted to "550 on first day". Though 550 average in first innings isn't ideal either. It means win the toss, win the match/points." Chill Vishal, it's a typo. I meant to write "innings". Nonetheless, I am glad you agree 550 in the first innings of a four-day match is preposterous
4.53pm - Says Amol K
Nobody offering to shake hands in Pune. The next over will be the last of the mandatory ones. UP 652 for 7

That's a wrap on the third day
Sidharth Monga
25-Feb-2013
That's a wrap on the third day. A day that outdid day two in terms of centuries brought up by 13 to 12. Thankfully three declarations made towards the end of the day - by Himachal, Punjab and Baroda - salvaged the day a little. As a feedbacker pointed out looking at the Pune game, forget outright wins, we need to devise a way to make teams go for at least the first-innings lead. One potential classic at Keenan Stadium keeps me going. Hopefully the three teams that made declarations will go hard for wins tomorrow. We will be there to bring all that and more. Cheers
"I believe Karnataka scored only 239/3 instead of your post mentioning 293/3. They need another 300 runs from 90 overs after they have scored only 239/3 in 100 overs. But If karnataka still bats at the end of 90th over tomorrow and have some wickets in hands, whom you would blame?" Thanks for pointing that out, Senthil. I have made the correction. I don't know whom to blame, though
5.12pm - Yet another hundred
In Goa, Swapnil Asnodkar made it 13 hundreds for the day, taking Goa to 239 for 2, 100 adrift of first-innings points
5.10pm - Three points for Andhra
Andhra took the first-innings lead against Tripura but showed no further urgency to declare. They scored 436 to take their lead to 176, but did so at a run rate of 2.43 an over. this match is over for all practical purposes

5.20pm That's a warp on the day

25-Feb-2013
5.20pm That's a warp on the day. Laziness is creeping in. Most of the matches went to 5pm today, which suggests slower over-rates. In only two of the matches have two innings finished. There have been a few matches where the side batting second hasn't lost a single wicket. And there's one where the side batting is refusing to declare. There have been tons of tons today, and a triple from Kedar Jadhav. Hoping for bowlers to play a stronger role tomorrow, we sign off. Cheers
5.18pm - Baroda looking good
Baroda have reached 192 for 2 responding to Vidarbha's 264.
5.16pm - 738 for 5
Maharashtra have reached 738 for 5, and haven't yet declared. Motwani is 146 not out after Jadhav's triple
5.15pm - Hyderabad's good day
They have restricted MP to 44 for 3. They scored 341, thanks to Laxman's century

5.15pm No five-fors today, but centuries for Maharashtra's Kedar Jadhav, Rajasthan's Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Vineet Saxena, and Tripura's Abbas Ali

25-Feb-2013
5.15pm No five-fors today, but centuries for Maharashtra's Kedar Jadhav, Rajasthan's Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Vineet Saxena, and Tripura's Abbas Ali. It was a day that neither bowlers nor batsmen bossed. If there was the 143 all out in Delhi, there was also the 300 for 3 in Pune. It's all pointing to at least two interesting days ahead. Do join us tomorrow for more of this. Cheers
5.10pm - Thirteen at Kotla
On a bowlers' day in Delhi, 13 wickets fell. Delhi bowled Odisha out for 143, and have been made to work hard for their 62 for 3 in 31 overs. This is the game to follow in this round
5.05pm Other Group B games
In Vadodara, Hemang Badani's fighting unbeaten 84 has taken Vidarbha to a fighting 218 for 8. His ninth-wicket stand with Amol Jungade is worth 53.
In Chennai all Tamil Nadu batsmen scored fifties to post an impressive 260 for 2. Badri and Aparajith end unbeaten on 61 and 85 respectively

Those three close finishes bring to an end the first round of Ranji Trophy 2012-13
Sidharth Monga
25-Feb-2013
Those three close finishes bring to an end the first round of Ranji Trophy 2012-13. Assam, Jharkhand and Punjab go top with seven points each. Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha get six points each. Bengal, Mumbai, Gujarat, Himachal, Services and Baroda earn three points. Rajasthan, Railways, MP, Kerala, Andhra and Karnataka get one each. The match between Tamil Nadu and Odisha was so marred by rain they will have to do with one point each
It's been a good first round. Very few dead drab draws. We will have fewer big stars in the following rounds, but ti will be just as fun. See you on the 9th then
Sharda Ugra's description of the finish in Ghaziabad: "In the contest between the ability of the Delhi team to kill time and stretch its changeovers, the fading of the light, and a total that dangled between reach and just out of the grasp, UP seized an outright win over Delhi by six wickets.
It took an aggressive but controlled century from Virender Sehwag (107, 165b 19x4) to gave Delhi half a chance to grab some points from their season opener. A target of 155 had been set and the match stretched into mandatory overs. By then, UP lost Suresh Raina with 38 still left to win, and Mohammad Kaif was injured. But they held their nerves to snatch the six points."

5.05pm End of another fruitful day's cricket in Ranji Trophy, a day before the team is selected for the first Test against England
Sidharth Monga
25-Feb-2013
5.05pm End of another fruitful day's cricket in Ranji Trophy, a day before the team is selected for the first Test against England. Two teams have achieved wins: Jharkhand over J&K by an innings and Vidarbha over Haryana by eight wickets. And apart from two other rain-affected matches, all the other eight can still produce outright results. It might be a bit of a stretch in a couple of those games, but it won't be wrong to say that you can't rule out results in 10 of the 12 games of this round.
The day belongs to Punjab's Jiwanjot Singh who became only the fifth Indian batsman to score a double-century on first-class debut. And also to Shabaz Nadeem, who took six wickets in Jharkhand's innings win. For the Indian Test team, there have only been scares. Zaheer Khan took just one wicket before walking off pointing to his groin. Pragyan Ojha and Ishant Sharma continued struggling. Virender Sehwag is fighting a finger injury, and Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli managed only 40s. Sehwag, though, came back to bat at No. 6, and fought for an hour, and is still unbeaten. The coaching staff of Delhi is saying it is nothing serious, and they just wanted to rest him as much as they could
It's all set up for a thrilling final day in many venues. Join us tomorrow for the rolling coverage of all that. Cheers
5pm - Formalities remain for Assam
In Guwahati, Ajay Ratra, playing for Tripura, may have taken the game into the fifth day with an unbeaten 75-run seventh-wicket stand with Mora Singh, but they still need 137 to make Assam bat again. Assam will be gunning for full seven points tomorrow
