5.20pm That's a warp on the day. Laziness is creeping in. Most of the matches went to 5pm today, which suggests slower over-rates. In only two of the matches have two innings finished. There have been a few matches where the side batting second hasn't lost a single wicket. And there's one where the side batting is refusing to declare. There have been tons of tons today, and a triple from Kedar Jadhav. Hoping for bowlers to play a stronger role tomorrow, we sign off. Cheers

5.18pm - Baroda looking good Baroda have reached 192 for 2 responding to Vidarbha's 264.

5.16pm - 738 for 5 Maharashtra have reached 738 for 5, and haven't yet declared. Motwani is 146 not out after Jadhav's triple

5.15pm - Hyderabad's good day They have restricted MP to 44 for 3. They scored 341, thanks to Laxman's century

5.10pm "Brian Lara can go back to sleep now - was a silly comment made by a small and mean mind. Jadhav was 174 runs adrift when you make such statements. It reminds me of Gavaskar who had to eat his words when he spoke of Shewag getting 500+ as soon as he crossed 300 runs against Sri Lanka." AM Yadhav, I feel like I have been put in my place. Thanks

5pm - No-loss updates In Jaipur, Mumbai openers are going strong at 76 for 0,, after Rajasthan are bowled out for 478.

In Surat, Saurasthra are 42 without a loss responding to Gujarat's 600 for 9 declared.

In Delhi, Odisha are 7 for 0 in the third innings of the match after having conceded a 188-run lead

In Anantapur, the Andhra openers have put on 154 in a solid reply to Tripura's 260

4.55pm - Himachal in a position of strength After conceding 312 against Services, Himachal have scored at a fair clip, and have reached 252 for 2 at stumps. They will want to score quick runs tomorrow, and then push for an outright win

4.50pm - Jiwanjot can't fail Jiwanthot Singh follows up his debut double-century with an unbeaten century in his second match. He goes into stumps at 102 not out. Mayank Sidana is 107, and Punjab are 229 for 1. If they play quick enough tomorrow, they can try for an outright win on the final day. They are still 97 behind Bengal's score

4.45pm - Jadhav finally out Kedar Jadhav is out stumped off Chawla for 327 off 312 balls. He hit 54 fours and two sixes. That's 228 runs in boundaries. Brian Lara can go back to sleep now

4.42pm - Goa set up for first-innings finish Responding to J&K's 338, Goa have reached 48 for no loss by stumps. If J&K can't enforce a follow-on, this will most certainly be decided on first-innings lead

4.35pm - Match and a half in Jamshedpur Jamshedpur is all set to witness an exciting finish. Twenty-two wickets have fallen in two days, and Assam are 27 for 2 in their second innings, giving them a total lead of 32. Anything over 150 will be difficult to chase here

4.31pm - Stumps updates now. First from Chennai Karnataka openers have survived 10 tricky overs to go back 26 for 0 loss. All six of TN batsmen scored at least 50, and they declared on 538 for 4

4.30pm - One more rung for Jadhav Says Amol Karhadkar: "Jadhav hits a straight drive to the fence off part-time medium pacer Parvinder Singh to go past Vijay Hazare's unbeaten 316 and rise to the second spot in the list of Maharashtra's highest individual scorers". Up next is Nimbalkar's 443

4.28pm - Hyderabad strike early A good day for Hyderabad has got better with two early wickets. MP 25 for 2. Hyderabad scored 341

4.26pm - Mumbai off to a solid start They are 67 for 0, and a tight finish for first-innings lead is on the cards. They need a further 412 for three points

4.25pm - Sidana gets hundred, Jiwanjot not too far behind Mayank Sidana has scored a century and added 189 with Jiwanjot Singh to put Punjab in a dominating position against Bengal. Jiwanjot is 92 not out

4.20pm - Delhi get 188 lead Mithun Manhas stays unbeaten on 161, which in itself is 18 more than Odisha's 143. He takes Delhi to 331. Delhi will be entertaining thoughts of seven points here

Six fifties by six batsmen Today was only the fourth time in Ranji Trophy that all of the top six of a side have scored 50 or more in one innings. The last time it happened, Karnataka were handing out the punishment, to UP in Kanpur, in 2010-11. Today they get a taste of their own medicine

4.15pm - Maharashtra past Mt 700 After beating Delhi, UP have now conceded 700-plus. And there is no respite in sight. Maharashtra are not declaring. Perhaps they know this pitch is too flat to force an outright result, and want to take three points through the scoreboard pressure.

The word in the stands, though, is, "Chawla hatao, UP bachao" [Get rid of Chawla to save UP]. Wonder if Suresh Raina is listening. Wonder if Raina is thinking he could have been at Brabourne Stadium, getting massages at the India camp.

4.13pm - Gujarat declare too But not before reaching 600 for 9. Rujul Bhatt not out on 160

4.10pm - Double for Chawla How Piyush Chawla must be wishing he hadn't hurried back from injury. He has now conceded 213 runs in 47 overs, for just one wicket

4.05pm - Back to triple This is the first triple-century this season, but also the 10th in the last five years. Before that, only 18 triples were scored in Ranji Trophy. That's a stark increase. I tried to find more about it last year. Until 2006-07 batsmen managed scores of 300 once every four Ranji seasons. Since then all hell has broken loose

4.02pm - Tamil Nadu declare With a six, Dinesh Karthik went past 150, and Tamil Nadu past 531, their previous highest against Karnataka. Soon they declared to ask Karnataka to negotiate a tricky 40 minutes or so

4pm - Kedar Jadhav scores triple Apologies first of all. My computer died, and has just come back to life. This from Amol Karhadkar in Pune: "He's done it! Jadhav glides Bhuvneshwar to third man to run a single that makes him only the third Maharashtra batsman to score a triple century, and the first in 64 years. He does it in just 285 balls, hitting 52 fours and a six"

3.16pm - Thriller in Jamshedpur Assam have stormed back against Jharkhand in what is promising to be the match of this round. Jharkhand were cruising at 142 for 4, but a six-wicket haul from Arlen Konwar has bowled them out for 174, which is a five-run lead for Assam

3.13pm - Jadhav reaches 250 Chawla bowling around the wicket to Jadhav for the last hour. Jadhav dances down the wicket, makes room for himself to hit him for a one-bounce four and acknowledges the applause for crossing 250

3.10pm - Will Jiwanjot ever fail? After a double-century on debut, Jiwanjot is now 58 not out in his second match. Punjab 146 for 1 after Bengal scored 326. Jiwanjot's current first-class average: 271. Frankly I don't see how he can fail. Ever

3.05pm - Amol Karhadkar in Pune Jadhav drives one to long-on to run a single off the first ball after tea to become Maharashtra's highest individual scorer while batting at No 4. Jadhav surpassed Prof DB Deodhar's 246 against Bombay almost 72 years ago.

Prof Deodhar, the doyen of Maharashtra cricket, is honoured by the Maharashtra Cricket Association with a statue at the entrance of the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, the same venue where Jadhav surpassed his feat.

Despite being overtaken by Jadhav, Prof Deodhar still holds the record for the highest individual score for Maharashtra at two other positions – No. 7 (196, vs Northern India in 1940-41) and No. 8 (141, vs Nawanagar in 1944-45).

2.40pm - Other tea updates Tamil Nadu 480 for 4 and punishing Karnataka Punjab 129 for 1 with an unbeaten fifty for Sidana From Amol Karhadkar in Pune: "Rohit Motwani slows down the proceedings as Maharashtra are 588 for four. Jadhav going strong at run-a-ball 246 while Motwani is batting on 80."

2.35pm - Fifties for all six With R Prasanna reaching the mark, all six who have batted for Tamil Nadu have reached at least 50. They are 478 for 4 on a turning track. Whenever they declare, Karnataka will have to bat really well to avoid a defeat here

2.32pm - Rassol finally falls Goa finally get rid of Pravez Rassol, who was 29 short of becoming only the fourth-even double-centurion for Jammu & Kashmir, who are now bowled out for 338. Samiullah Beigh remains 57 not out

2.30pm - Chawla bowl another bouncer in Pune The legspinner is clearly frustrated, and let me duck for cover before I say this reminds me of Shane Warne bowling one in the Chennai Test of 2000-01

2.27pm - Attrition in Anantapur Andhra have reached 65 for 0 in 31 overs, chasing 261 for the first-innings lead

2.26pm - Services get Chopras Services have got both the Chopras - Prashant and Aakash - before they could ge tot their centuries. This is shaping up to be a tight tussle for the first-innings point. At 177 for 2, Himachal need another 150 for three points

2.25pm - Assam fight back In Jamshedpur, Assam have fought back with three wickets for 17 to readuce Jharkhan to 160 for 6. They still need 20 take the lead

2.22pm - Manhas, Narwal run away with it An unbeaten century stand between Mithun Manhas and Sumit Narwal for the seventh wicket has taken Delhi's lead to 121. Manhas 126 not out. Narwal 42

2.17pm - Some fight from Hyderabad The last wicket for Hyderabad has added 38 to take Hyderabad to 308 for 9. Mohammed Khader is 23 not out, and Vishal Sharma 17

2.15pm - Frustration for Mumbai Rajasthan keep refusing to fold. After yet another mini collapse, they have yet another partnership - 55 for the ninth wicket, between Dishant Yagnik and Pankaj Singh. Rajasthan 454 for 8

2.10pm - Saurashtra finally get a wicket Stop the press. Saurashtra have taken a wicket today. And they had to go to the part-time of Shitanshu Kotak, the second-oldest man in this year's Ranji Trophy. Manprit Juneja falls on 159, Gujarat 476 for 6 in Surat

2.05pm - Hundred for Karthik Dinesh Karthik has made batting look easy in his aggressive century in Chepauk. TN are 456 for 4. Expect a declaration some time today

1.50pm - Jharkhand look good for lead Saurabh Tiwary's unbeaten 33 has stabilised a wobbly Jharkhand innings. They are now 144 for 4, only 35 behind Assam's first-innings total of 179

1.47pm - Waghmode continues his good form Aditya Waghmode, who scored a century in the first match, is 52 not out, and Baroda 93 for 1, needing another 172 to ensure three points from this match

1.45pm - Rajan and Pandey push Hyderabad down again After Laxman, the deluge. Laxman gone for 120, and Hyderabad are down at 280 for 9. Anand Rajan and Ishwar Pandey have taken four each

1.35pm - Manhas takes Delhi ahead This has been a round for veterans. Now Mithun Manhas has reached his 21st first-class century to take Delhi to 219 for 6. This surplus of 73 and counting could be match-winning

1.32pm - Mumbai stay in Mumbai's fightback continues, and Rajasthan are 424 for 8. Dishant Yagnik is 47 not out

1.30pm - Jiwanjot Singh in again Jiwanjot Singh, who scored a double-century on debut, has reached 23 in close to two hours, and Punjab are 67 for 1 in response to Bengal's 326

1.25pm - Karthik punishes Karnataka Declaration is very much on the card as Dinesh Karthik is dominating Karnataka, reaching 86 off 100. Tamil Nadu are 423 for 4. CM Gautam has just missed a chance to stump Karthik. Karnataka not helping themselves

1.20pm - Chawla bounces Says Amol Karhadkar: "Believe it or not, Piyush Chawla has bowled a bouncer. The leggie, who has been bowling from the pavilion end for almost the whole day, is frustrated and uses his shoulder as much as he can and keeper Amir Khan collects it before his head after Rohit Motwani lets it go. And the umpire signals one for the over"

Soon Motwani drives Chawla down the ground for a boundary to raise his fifty. Maharashtra 530 for 4

1pm - Delhi ahead but lose another Odisha are picking up wickets, but Manhas has reached 84 not out, and Delhi's lead is 35 with four wickets in hand

12.55pm - Jadhav brings up the double And Amol Karhadkar is there to record it: "And he's done it. Jadhav pushes Chawla for a single towards mid-off, takes his helmet off and waves towards his teammates and his father. He has taken just 199 balls to reach the milestone

"This is the first double-century for a Maharashtra batsman in nine years. The last batsman to score a double for them was another Jadhav, Dheeraj, who scored 251 at Nehru Stadium in Pune against Madhya Pradesh in the 2003-04 Plate Group final. And ironically, even in this season, Dheeraj has scored a double already, but for Assam"

12.50pm - Double around the corner? Amol Karhadkar writes in from Pune, "Wonder what confidence can do to a batsman? Take this. Kedar Jadhav, batting on 193, reverse sweeps Piyush Chawla. He only gets a single but such sweetly timed the shot is that it races to the squarish deep thirdman in no time.

"He then flicks Imtiaz through midwicket for a boundary and then drives him to the sweeper cover. He's on 199 now"

12.48pm - Post-lunch strike for Mumbai Mumbai have got Rashmi Parida just after lunch. Rajasthan are 384 for 6

Lunch update from Amol Karhadkar in Pune Maharashtra 475 for 4, stronger than where they finished last evening. Kedar Jadhav unbeaten on 192 off 189 balls, skipper Rohit Motwani keeping him company with a patient, unbeaten 22

Elsewhere, in Jaipur, Rajasthan have come back well from a mini collapse, and have reached 380 for 5. Rashmi parida and Dinesh Yagnik are both unbeaten on 28

In Surat, Manprit Juneja is 117 not out, and Gujarat are 390 for 5 against Saurashtra

In Hyderabad, Laxman is 119 not out out of 250 for 6

11.40am - Hundred for Juneja too Manprit Juneja and Gujarat are grinding Saurashtra into the Surat dust. Juneja is 110 not out, and Gujarat 365 for 5

11.34am - Scratch the previous update The umpires go upstairs to find out Behera had overtsepped while getting the wicket of Bisht. He will come back now. Delhi 138 for 5. What drama in Delhi

11.33am - Odisha keep fighting Deepak Behera has just bowled Puneet Bisht to make it six down for Delhi before they have taken the lead. However, Manhas is still there

11.15am - Laxman reaches hundred Nine days after his 38th birthday, VVS Laxman has scored his 55th first-class century to help Hyderabad to 219 for 5. he came in at No. 4, and has scored nearly 50% of the total

11.12am - Mumbai fightback continues Robin Bist falls too. Rajasthan 55 for 3 this morning. Overall they are 324 for 5. Ot's the part-timer Kaustubh Pawar, the eighth bowler used by Mumbai, who is doing the damage, with two wickets in three overs. Everybody except for captain Rohit Sharma and keeper Aditya Tare has bowled

11.11am - Nelson for Badani Hemang Badani is left stranded on 111 not out as Vidarbha are bowled out for 264. Baroda 21 for no loss in response

11.10am - Gujarat keep on piling Manprit Juneja is in the 90s in Surat, and Gujarat are 355 for 5

11.05am - Mumbai continue with economy Rajasthan have added just 50 in 20 overs this morning, and have lost Saxena and Menaria. Mumbai have been tight on the second day

11am - Laxman in familiar territory Down in Hyderabad, VVS Laxman is playing a characteristic rearguard. Hyderabad have lost three wickets this morning, but Laxman is unbeaten on 92 out of 207 for 5

10.55am - Amol Karhadkar from Pune A wicket for UP, finally. Bawne's attempted late-cut off Piyush Chawla rests in Amir Khan's gloves behind the wicket. Bawne scored 78 (141b, 13x4). Maharashtra 418 for 4

10.50am - Manhas ensures lead for Delhi While approaching landmarks have been the focus this morning, another veteran, Mithun Manhas, has scored an unbeaten half-century to take Dlehi to 129 for 4. They have lost just one wicket this morning, after the first day consumed 13 wickets. This is a big effort from Manhas

10.45am - Aparajith's maiden ton With an edge off Binny, wide of the keeper standing up, Baba Aparajith, the U-19 World Cup hero, has reached a maiden first-class hundred. Tamil Nadu well on their way to an imposing total on a track turning square. This is what senior partner S Badrinath had to say about his innings: "He showed a lot of composure. It was important for us to stick around and build partnerships. With him playing a such a well-composed innings, it was not too hard to do that."

Opposition captain, too, was full of praise. "He played very well," said R Vinay Kumar. "He showed a lot of temperament and also showed he could stick around for a long time without playing any loose shot."

10.43am - Saha misses out Wriddhiman Saha has fallen on 98, out to Rahul Sharma. So the record stays three fifties in three innings this year for him. Bengal bowled out for 326

10.40am - L Siva gets it wrong Minutes after L Siva says 40 years of local experience tells him it is not going to rain in Chennai, it starts to drizzle. Not hard enough to take the players off. Badri, however, have falen this morning, slightly short of the 8000 mark in first-class cricket. TN 291 for 3 on a turner

10.30am - Jadhav takes Chawla apart From Amol Karhadkar in Pune: "Kedar Jadhav goes past 150 with a sweep shot off Piyush Chawla that bisects fine leg and deep midwicket. He follows it up with a crisp cover drive for the second boundary of the over. And a cover drive off the backfoot makes it three for the over." Maharashtra 417 for 3

10.25 - Badani's hundred When Hemang Badani last scored a first-class century, there was no Twitter. Two days ago he tweeted he was nervous playing at Moti Bagh after eight years. The last time he played there he had had to go for a CT scan. Now he scores a century, his first since January 2006, to rescue Vidarbha to 254 for 9

10.20am - Mumbai get parsimonious Kshemal Waigankar has bowled five maidens this morning in Jaipur. Bist has scored 1 off 30 today. Rajasthan 294 for 3

10.15am - Amol Karhadkar from Pune Tanmay Srivastava drops Ankit Bawne at backward point off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The batsman was on 71. Maharashtra 373 for 3

10.05am - Laxman loses Vihari Madhya Pradesh have got rid of Hanuma Vihari for 81, and Hyderabad are now 174 for 3. Laxman not out on 77

9.55am - Rassol gets a hundred It was just before Diwali three years ago that Parvez Rassol was picked up by Bangalore police, from the residential block of the Chinnaswamy Stadium. He was playing Under-22 for J&K, and the police had apparently found traces of explosives in his kit bag. Rassol endured that hellish day, and came back in the evening after being cleared. Just before Diwali now, he has reached his second first-class century, taking J&K to 207 for 7 against Goa

9.50am - Saxena fails to add on Vineet Saxena drives at a short-of-a-length delivery from Dhawal Kulkarni and edges him through to the keeper. He hasn't added to his overnight 114. Rajasthan 270 for 3 now

Following the trend, Abbas Ali fails to add to his overnight century, and Tripura are 240 for 7 against Andhra

9.45am - Malik strikes twice in Nadaun Swing bowler Vikramjeet Malik has brought Himachal right back into the match against Services, who have lost two wickets for five runs this morning. At 295 for 8, it looks much better for Himachal.

Speaking of Nadaun, the dhabas there have made Aakash Chopra reconnect with his love of the game

9.40am - Saha finds more support Over in Mohali, another partnership seems to be brewing. That could take Wriddhiman Saha, who is 80 not out, to a hundred. Veerpratap Singh, No. 9, has hung around for eight overs and has faced 26 balls already. Bengal 289 for 7

9.35am - Jadhav continues where he left Amol Karhadkar from Pune: "Kedar Jadhav continues his onslaught by hitting two square boundaries either side of the wicket in the first over of the day, bowled by Imtiaz Ahmed

As Imtiaz continues to spray the ball all over, and is taken for runs as a result, Mohammad Kaif has a word of advice for the bowler, "Come on, Imtiaz. Ek line pe dalte rehna [Stick to a line]."

9.15am Hrishikesh Kanitkar reached 10,000 runs yesterday. Vineet Saxena made it to 5000. Kedar Jadhav scored a run-a-ball hundred against UP. Thirteen wickets fell at the Kotla, and interesting matches are set up in Vadodara and Jamshedpur. Much more to look forward to.
