Michael Gregory Kerran Burgess
July 08, 1994, Epsom
Right hand Bat
Michael Burgess, a wicketkeeper-batsman, made an excellent debut in county cricket when he struck 98 for Leicestershire against the Sri Lankan tourists at Grace Road. His county debut came after a three-year Sports and Exercise Science degree at Loughborough. Epsom born, he had previously been connected with Surrey.
Burgess was released by Leicestershire in 2016, but was soon snapped up by Sussex. He recorded a maiden hundred against Notts at the end of 2017, enough to win him another contract, and won opportunities across all formats in 2018, adding a second Championship hundred against his former county, Leicestershire.
But with opportunities limited at Sussex by the arrival of Kolpak registration Stiaan van Zyl, Burgess left the club midway through the 2019 season to join Warwickshire, for whom he made a career-best 178 against Surrey in the opening match of the 2022 Championship.
