Lahore, Nov 24: The second day of the three-day match between England and the PCB XI was washed out without a ball being bowled because of overnight rain.

The wicket at the Bagh-e-Jinnah ground was dry but the square and bowlers run-up at both ends were wet and soggy. The groundsmen worked all day but failed to convince the umpires to start the game in the afternoon session.

If no rain comes about on Saturday, there was a possibility that the match would commence after lunch.

Rains hit the city last evening. But it came down in force early Friday morning. Ironically, despite rain forecast, the local administration didn't feel it necessary to borrow square covers from the Qadhafi Stadium to keep the area dry.

The umpires inspected the ground at 10:00am and finally called off the day's play at 1:00pm.

Both the teams left the ground at 9:00am after watching the condition of the ground where there were pools of waters. The PCB XI returned at 12:30pm but the Englishmen were wise when only their skipper, coach and manager turned up.

More than half of the England team members later had a training session at the Qadhafi Stadium.
