5.3 to WG Jacks, goes a mile up, and it nestles into Nigam's palms! The slower ball does the trick for Mukesh. Full just outside off and Jacks is enticed into a big hack across the line. The lack of pace, though, means he cuts across it too much and Nigam, back-pedaling from mid off, keeps his eyes on the ball all the way and does the rest. MI lose two in the powerplay, and DC keep chipping away!. 48/2 14.5 to NT Tilak Varma, straight to long on, and Tilak's struggles come to an end! Dug into the track outside off, asking Tilak to fetch it leg side. He swings at it with all his might but cannot quite generate the power he is after. Might have been the slower ball too, which made it tougher for the batter and Tilak could not have picked out Rizvi better. DC have something to show for their middle-overs squeeze, and MI, just as the death-overs are dawning, lose a set batter!. 113/4

16.3 to HH Pandya, well, Hardik tries, and Hardik perishes, much to the disappointment of thousands at the Wankhede! Another leg-cutter but the difference this time is the line and the length. This is just outside off and full enough for Hardik to think he can go downtown. Goes through with his swing but the grip and hold off the surface means he slices it straight down backward point's throat. Hardik walks off dejected, and MI slide further into trouble!. 123/5

2.2 to RG Sharma, edged and gone! Rohit bites the dust, and the Wankhede Stadium descends into silence! Angled across on a length outside off. Rohit goes chasing after it, trying to go downtown. Gets his body shape all wrong, though, and all he manages is a healthy nick through to Porel, who snaps it up smartly to his right. Rohit cannot believe what he has done, nor can the thousands clad in blue. No real celebration from the Fizz but deep down, he will know this is a big breakthrough!. 23/1

6.4 to RD Rickelton, in the air again, and taken this time! Rickelton throws his head back in disappointment, and the mood turns even more somber at the Wankhede Stadium! Given a bit of air again, daring Rickelton to bring out the sweep and nail it. He takes up the challenge but comes up second-best. Not quite to the pitch of the ball, meaning that he chalks it off the toe-end. Tiwari, on debut, runs around to his right from deep backward square leg, and snares the chance. Kuldeep is delighted, as is du Plessis, and this is a vital wicket at this stage!. 58/3 |

2.4 to KL Rahul, A Boult from the blue, and Rahul falls, and it is a racket out there at the Wankhede Stadium now! Scrambled-seam, angling across the batter on a back of a length outside off. Rahul skips down the track and then has an agricultural swipe across the line. The top hand comes off the bat, and the ball kisses the bottom part of the blade. Rickelton stoops forward and low, and gobbles it up to send KLR back to the hut!. 20/2

1.4 to F du Plessis, straight to Santner, and du Plessis cannot believe what he has done! Slower ball on a full length just outside leg. du Plessis thinks he can go downtown but does not get the better of his former CSK teammate. Too early into the stroke and the bat face closes upon impact too. A tame lob to long on, and Santner was not going to drop that - not in a million years. Chahar is pumped. MI are pumped. The crowd is pumped. DC, under the pump early!. 12/1

4.2 to Abishek Porel, beauty! This is looped up deliciously on a length just outside off. Porel is drawn into a poke forward and gets beaten completely. Seems to over-balance too. Rickelton whips off the bails but has he done so quickly enough. Oh well. Oh well. The third umpire Chris Gaffaney has multiple looks at it and reckons the back foot was just in the air when the bails were taken off. What a delivery, and what a piece of keeping. Porel done all ends up, and DC staring down the barrel now!. 27/3
4 | 0 | 11 | 3 | 2.75 | 16 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
7.6 to V Nigam, the softest of dismissals, and Santner is weaving a web around the Capitals now! Fired in on a back of a length on middle and leg. Comes in with the arm, while also stopping in the surface a little. Nigam has designs to turn this to leg but the ball sticks in the surface just enough to induce a tame leading edge. Perhaps the easiest catch Santner will ever have to take, and DC are now four down!. 55/4 14.2 to Sameer Rizvi, does him all ends up, and Rizvi's cameo comes to an end! This is tossed up marvelously on a length on middle stump. Rizvi gets down on one knee and then waits. He waits and waits and waits and waits and then the ball arrives, along with a bit of turn and a bit of bounce. Swipes at thin air and hears the death rattle of middle stump soon after. Brilliant, brilliant bowling and Santner has two!. 103/6 14.5 to AR Sharma, the Kiwi wizard has the ball on a string, and the Capitals are falling like a pack of cards in front of this magician! This is a dream delivery. Plenty of air, plenty of guile, plenty of deception and plenty of world-class quailty. Gets it over the eye-line and it drops on a length just outside off. By then, Ashutosh is committed to the drive away from his body, only to realize that his front foot and the ball are in different post codes. Wafts at it in hope and gets nowhere near it, with Rickelton doing the rest! DC on the brink now!. 104/7
3.2 | 0 | 12 | 3 | 3.60 | 12 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
9.2 to T Stubbs, plumb with a capital P, and Stubbs has to head back for an early shower! But hang on. Hang on. Stubbs has reviewed! Slower ball on a fullish length, pitching just outside off and cutting back in sharply. Stubbs plays all around it and gets smoked on the front pad, right on the knee roll. This seems like a review in hope the longer it goes on, and Ball Tracking confirms that suspicion, with the ball smashing into leg stump two-thirds of the way up. Bumrah did not even look back at the umpire until very late and now, we know why. Bumrah doing what Bumrah does, and MI are squeezing the life out of this run-chase!. 65/5 15.3 to M Tiwari, Jasprit Bumrah, you cannot do that! This is proper champagne bowling now. Slower yorker that hangs in the air like it is being controlled by a thread. It hangs and hangs and hangs just outside off before dipping cruelly and clinically. Tiwari, playing his first-ever IPL game, has no clue and plays too early. Off stump knocked back and Bumrah greets him with a smile - a smile of a man who knows he has outwitted the batter, and that he is, quite simply, the best in the world!. 108/8 18.2 to Mustafizur Rahman, From the brink of despair last season and early this campaign, to pure elation and ecstasy - the Mumbai Indians, five-time winners already, are now eleven-time qualifiers! This brilliantly bullish band in blue and gold, away from the big time for a gruelling year that may have felt like an eternity, will be back in the thick of it all in 2025! And this stellar star cast, of Boult and Bumrah, of Tilak and SKY, of Chahar and Dhir and Santner, and of Rickelton, Rohit and the redemption-chasing Hardik, will have yet another opportunity to add to this league's legend and to this franchise's folklore, and to show how and why this team just gets winning better than most in the land! And this blow is fitting of how dominant MI have been since over number 18 in the first innings. A searing yorker on middle stump. Straight as an arrow and Mustafizur, batting at eleven, had absolutely no chance of keeping that out. Smiles, embraces and plenty of flag-waving in the stands. The MI crowd turned up tonight, and their side turned up tonight too. And the Capitals, well, they will be left ruing what could have been, and a failure to win yet another game that really, really mattered in an IPL season!. 121/10

17.6 to Kuldeep Yadav, goes straight up, and Kuldeep goes straight back to the shed! Karn dangles the carrot on leg stump and Kuldeep bites. Scampers down the track to try and smash it into the Arabian Sea but gets nowhere near the pitch of the ball. Has to reach out well in front and he only gets height. Long on runs in and takes a regulation chance to leave DC tottering even more!. 120/9 |
