Banged in short on middle, swivels and throws his hands at it, gets a top-edge that flies over the keeper's head and skittles away to the rope. Bangladesh avoid a collapse and some timely hits from Nurul Hasan got them to the doorstep of victory. Credit to Afghanistan for not giving up and turning the game on its head in the middle-overs
Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, 1st T20I at Sharjah, AFG vs BAN, Oct 02 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Bangladesh won by 4 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)
Bangladesh stuttered and stammered after a fabulous opening partnership between Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon. Both batted swiftly and struck spellbinding half-centuries. It seemed to be one-way traffic from there, but then Rashid Khan produced a memorable spell, picking up four wickets, and all of a sudden the equation became onerous for Bangladesh. Noor Ahmad kept things tight as well. In the end, Bangladesh had enough in the tank as Nurul Hasan and Rishad Hossain steadied the ship and played sensibly. The pacers erred in the last few overs, and both batters sealed the deal. One thing is for sure: we are in for a highly entertaining series, as the curtain raiser proved to be a hair-raising spectacle
Rashid Khan, Afghanistan Captain: I still feel like we could have finished better. In T20, you can't afford to lose momentum - once you lose it, it's hard to get it back. We threw away wickets too easily. Hopefully, we keep learning and improving because the main aim is to prepare for the World Cup. The batters should focus on playing their natural game - take your time, but under pressure shot selection (tends to get faulty). I also think we didn't bowl well in the first 10 overs. The more you bowl at the stumps, the better it is, because once you bowl outside, it gets easier to score. I feel as soon as we came back to hitting the stumps consistently and asking questions, we got back into the game
Jaker Ali, Bangladesh Captain: I am very pleased with the effort of the boys. I think we started really well, though the batting collapse is a concern - but cricket is a funny game. Yes, there are areas of improvement in both batting and bowling and we will talk about that. The way we started, the bowlers did a really good job, as they also did in the Asia Cup. I think we leaked some runs at the death. At the end of the day, winning and losing is what matters and this win has given us confidence. We look forward to winning the series
Cries of catch it! Shorter in length and on off-stump, deft touch as the fielder at deep third collects on one bounce
Improvisation at its best! Pitched up again and outside off, changes his stance and ramps it over the keeper's head for a six. Changed the complexion of the game
Antor Rafi: "Bangladesh's top order has depth, middle is thin, lower is empty. Still, Jaker gets repeated opportunities. Perhaps Nurul is here to push him."
Pitched up and offers some room, nonchalantly dumps it for a six over long-on! It was a slower delivery and he picks it early and spanks it disdainfully. Bangladesh can breathe a sight of relief now
Bangs in short but the line is not right, down the leg-side and he takes him on, gets enough connection to beat the keeper and it trundles away to the rope. A very timely boundary by Bangladesh!
slackens his pace, shorter in length and outside off, spanks it to short cover, Nabi with a sharp throw at striker's end, direct hit would have been very. very close!
hits the deck hard and shapes it in at middle, worked using his fluid wrists to midwicket, Fareed bumps at Nurul but no argy-bargy, bowler apologises
Shuffles across his stumps and targets the vacant region around backward square again, tries a scoop and it hits him high on the bat, quick intervention from the fielder at midwicket region
hard to fathom how quickly this game has changed. Around, shorter around the line off, poor delivery smeared through backward square, not much movement and he calmly places it into the gap, much-needed boundary
Around the wicket, darts in a bumper wide of off, tries to flay a cut and only flails at thin air, pressure will amp with each dot
Tossed up, skidded on towards length, that will calm the nerves, crunched a thunderous pull and finds the gap between long-on and deep midwicket, crashes onto the advertising hoardings
Pushed with a swivel to deep midwicket
good length and searching for the lbw, flicked to deep midwicket and will add two runs. Aasking rate has risen to 9.60
Looped up on a length at middle and leg, tries to nurgle and splices it back towards the bowler, nervy
Floated up fuller on middle, prances down the track and shovels it back to the bowler, not sure if that carried, died on him quickly as he tried to catch after his follow through
Khan Ahmadi: "Bangladesh is doing what Pakistan is known for"
tahirJagirani: "OMG, Tanzid was Not Out, Let me know who is culprit who wasted both precious reviews?"
Ahad Adnan : "It's important and crucial to learn when not to take an unnecessary review when you are almost sure that you are gonna out, and you are wasting the only remaining lifeline as a team"
John: "Did I get teleported into another universe? Wasn't Bangladesh chasing this comfortably without having lost any wickets? What is real? What is illusion?"
Around the wicket, tossed right up to the toes, eased to short backward square
Loops it up fuller and skidded on with the angle, beating the outsid edge by a WHISKER! Oh, this is high drama! Tension is palpable. Afghanistan has breathed life into this game!
Tosses it up, stumps to stumps line on middle, watchfully flicked to short midwicket
Thumping his pads and, to me, it looked like it pitched outside leg but there are no reviews left for Bangladesh and so he has to go! Hits him in front of the stumps, was looking to sweep. Tanzim wanted to review but none left. The game has changed so quickly, you give Afghanistan spinners a sniff and they seize on the opportunity.
lobbed up fuller and drifts away on middle and leg, tries a reverse sweep and doesn't quite get hold of it properly, third man hunts it down quickly
