3.6 to MW Short, bouncer, Short goes - hook, line and sinker! Went for the same shot but didn't connect nearly as well and the ball sails into the grateful mitts of Adil Rashid down on the boundary. Archer makes the breakthrough for England. 21/1 34.3 to SPD Smith, terrific catch! Archer gets Smith for the first time. Short of a length, Smith swivels on a pull, gets it well and in front of square, Carse makes a lot of ground around the rope and dives full length to hold on. 172/5
10 | 0 | 55 | 1 | 5.50 | 32 | 5 | 1 | 1 | 1 | |
10.5 to MR Marsh, beauty from Carse, edged behind! Six and out for Marsh, whose footwork was far less certain to this channel ball, it held its line just enough to kiss the bat and present Smith with a simple low take to his right. Carse gets on the board on his home ground. 47/2

5 | 1 | 33 | 1 | 6.60 | 13 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 0 | |
26.4 to C Green, straight to a close mid-on! The fielder had just moved from silly mid-on, back a few steps, and Green has picked him out. He advanced at Bethell, aimed a drive down the ground, finds Jacks. 131/3
3 | 0 | 20 | 1 | 6.66 | 8 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
27.2 to M Labuschagne, and another! Labuschagne has gone for the paddle-sweep again, gets a top edge that loops up straight behind him for the keeper. 132/4

41.6 to GJ Maxwell, is this taken?! Yes, it is. Short and slapped to extra cover, taken low down by Carse. Maxwell can barely believe it. He stands for a few moments. Definitely a clean catch. 226/6 |

2.2 to PD Salt, back of a length, shovelled off the body... straight to midwicket! An unusual dismissal for an opener, particularly one with as strong a leg-side game as Salt. But he has to walk off and Australia are amongst them early again. Not a particularly threatening line but Salt has just miscued it towards Short inside the ring and he stoops for a low catch to his left. 7/1 2.6 to BM Duckett, full, swinging and thick-edged to backward point! Duckett has another dart, the bat coming down across the line and skewing the ball straight to Maxwell this time. Two in the over for Starc and England already in need of some magic to turn this game around. 11/2

27.3 to WG Jacks, there's the breakthrough! The short ball plan pays off. Jacks stepping away, looks up to upper cut over the off side, takes a top edge and settles at deep third. 167/3 31.5 to JL Smith, taken at deep square! Another one to the short ball. Smith gets underneath it, gets elevation but not distance. Regulation catch for Maxwell. 197/4
