NW Warriors vs Reds, 11th Match at Eglinton, INTER PRO, Jul 01 2022 - Ball by Ball Commentary

ABANDONED
11th Match, Eglinton, July 01, 2022, Cricket Ireland Inter-Provincial Limited Over Cup

Match abandoned without a ball bowled

1:40pm The Umpires have been out in the middle for the inspection and it's not good news. The ground isn't drying and there is no chance of it doing so before the cut off time. So sadly, the match has been abandonded!

Each team picks up two points, which means that the Reds are no six points ahead of the Lightning and with only one match left in the tournament. This means that's the Reds win the IP50 title for the first time. Not the way that they would have wanted to win it, but congratulations to them anyway

Thanks for following on today, the last game of the season sees the Lightning take on the Knights in Pembroke on Monday, hopefully the weather will be better then and you'll be able to join me. Until then, this is Justin Smyth saying goodbye from Eglinton.

12:15pm We have just had an additional inspection here, the result is, Lunch is going to be brought forward to 1pm. The Umpires are going to have another look at 1:30pm. Let's hope that we can bring news of something positive then!

11:15am The result of the 11am inspection, is that there is going to be another inspection at 12pm. Sadly there has been a lot of rain in the North-West in the last couple of days and the ground just doesn't seem to be drying very well. Would be great to see some sun to help..

Morning Everyone! Welcome to Eglinton for the game that will decide the destiny of the Cricket Ireland Interprovincial IP50 trophy this year, as the North-West Warriors host the Munster Reds. It's Justin Smyth here again and I'll be bringing you ball by ball coverage of what should be an exciting game of cricket between these two teams.

The Munster Reds have been the pick of the sides so far this year, and sit at the top of the table, a couple of points clear of their opponents today. A settled team, without the injuries that plagued them last year, has meant that they have been able to develop together and will probably be the favourites going into the game today. I'd expect there won't be any changes to the team that goes out on the field today.

Today gives the Warriors the chance to win the only title that has eluded them since the Interpros started again, and as the only team to beat the Reds in the competition this year, you wouldn't put it past them. They will be missing the experienced William Porterfield, who made the decision in the last couple of weeks to retire from International and Interprovincial cricket

All the games in the North-West have been affected by the weather this year, and looking at the forecast for today, there will be showers about! There has also been a bit of rain overnight, I've already been told that there is going to be an inspection at 10am, it's going to be a delayed start. Will update you when I get some more news..
