it's five to win the match! Another cutter, fingers rolled over the ball, it was fuller this time, Taskin heaving to the leg side again and he gets a top edge which is well held by Buttler diving forward
Bangladesh vs England, 1st ODI at Dhaka, Oct 07 2016 - Ball by Ball Commentary
England win by 21 runs after a dramatic collapse by Bangladesh after they lose 6 for 17 in 39 balls from the moment Shakib found midwicket. Jake Ball the hero with five wickets on ODI debut, he was running on empty at the end but kept going. They are the best figures by an England bowler on ODI debut. A word, too, for Adil Rashid who showed the value of the legspinner against the lower order. A big day as well for Ben Stokes with his maiden one-day century. What of Bangladesh? This will be tough to take. Imrul Kayes and Shakib Al Hasan had put them in complete control. It was a superb century from Kayes, who battled cramp, and Shakib played freely but fell the ball after he cramped up. The conditions were very tough. I'll bring you the presentation shortly
usama: "That's why people were saying Shakib is key here...." sean: "Bangladesh have only themselves to blame here, really batsmen going for glory shots when there's no need has cost them, But what a comeback by England and nice job by Buttler, remained cool when it was required. Good game nonetheless, well played to both teams."
David: "Surely mahoosive credit to Ball for that performance on debut." Of course. Immense display.
Dan: "I'm an England fan and even I'm heartbroken. Awful, awful collapse. Huge kudos to Jake Ball - Herculean effort to drag England kicking and screaming over the line."
Mashrafe Mortaza. "Should have been an easy game for us. 309 is always difficult but it was a nice wicket. Imrul batted really well. Dropped catches cost us, the score could have been 280. Stokes played really well. Could have been a different game. Imrul has been doing really well, back-to-back hundreds, hopefully he'll keep that going."
Jos Buttler. "Fantastic game. I'm stood there thinking I got the toss all wrong. Stokesy dragged everyone together and said one last push. They were cruising it, but new batters came in. Great to continue winning habit. Jake to stand up on debut was fantastic. Adil is very dangerous in the last 10 overs. He was valuable today. We have found a player in Ben, you'd never know he was on debut. Looked like a season pro. We could easily have dug a hole ourselves at 60 for 3. It was a fantastic partnership. What a fightback and we'll enjoy that one."
Man of the Match is Jake Ball "Incredible. I just thought I had to come in and hit it hard. No chance of me coming off, great chance for the five-for. There was a bit of variable bounce, hit the pitch hard, it skidded hard and change the pace. It's a bit hotter out here! Difficult conditions. We just wanted to keep going and keep fighting."
Right, that just about wraps things up for today. What a way to start the series. Andrew's report will be built up here over the next little while. England showed their bottle to turn that around, Bangladesh showed they retain the ability to collapse in style. For now, from Gnasher and Miller, it's goodbye, thanks for joining us and see you on Sunday.
short of a length, a cutter banged into the surface, he's through his shot way early as he tries to club to the leg side
Simon Lewis: "Nervously toggling between watching this match and watching the approach of Hurricane Matthew to my evacuated house in Charleston, SC." Stay safe!
beats the edge as he drives at a full ball...close to taking out off stump as well
short of a length, angled in, sliced down to third man with a cramped cut shot
dragged down short and wide, batsman gave himself room but it's wide enough anyway for the call
round the wicket, full and straight, does well to open the face and play it to third man
Ball to bowl his final over
another swing and a miss, Rashid tosses up a googly which he doesn't pick. It also bursts through Buttler's gloves but doesn't cost a bye
goes for a slog sweep, misses again, pitches outside leg this time
very full and he squeezes it out off an inside edge past leg stump and short fine leg has to chase it down
huge appeal for lbw as he misses his slog-sweep and gets taken on the back pad. England wasted their review earlier
spins quite sharply and it goes down the leg side...no wide, umpire thinks it clipped the pad
defends a short ball
AmericanCricket: "Sigh... I was hoping for a Bangladesh victory to raise my confidence before this exam I have, but now... Sigh..."
Ketan: "This is heartbreaking for Bangladesh.... Kudos to England though for persisting through all the humidity and keeping at it" Well, have we got a famous last-wicket stand to come?
full and straight, gives himself a touch of room and drives to deep cover
brings out the slog, swings a short-of-a-length ball over midwicket and finds plenty of space
Jonas: "All the wickets have come in an over bowled by Ball or Rashid. Influential. "
good work from Buttler as he moves to his left to cut off a bottom edge
Aditya: "Poor from Bangladesh. They might as well rotate strike with singles and settle before slogging at the end, if necessary."
stays round the wicket, full at off stump, pushed to cover
What a collapse from Bangladesh. From the feedback, many of you have seen it before. Also, though, credit to England for sticking at it and believing.
it's all happening! He nearly spoons a catch to mid-off, it falls short then Rashid pulls off the direct hit and they got upstairs. He's miles out!
round the wicket, on a good length, beats the outside edge
Ball keeps going. Massive effort from him
and he finishes with another legspinner which turns to beat Shafiul's attempted drive...another one comes out of Buttler's glove, but no edge
missed by a whisker! Has another huge swing at a googly which is millimetres from off stump
