yorker! That's the way to bring down skyscrapers, denotate them at the foundations ... Irfan's timbers tumble, and it's 1-1 with two to play!
10.20pm So, England bounce back from their six-wicket drubbing with a 95-run thumping. Performances from every member of the team - Hales hundred, Roy and Root fifties, key new-ball spells from Topley and Willey, four wickets in the middle overs from Woakes, and a fine spell of 10-0-32-1 from Adil Rashid, to name but the main men.
For Pakistan, Wahab Riaz was magnificent with the ball and Sarfraz defiant with the bat, but much like England in the Test series, a handful of outstanding contributions couldn't atone for a whole load of not-a-lot.
aadil140: "DARPOOK (coward) innings? seriously bro? i'd rather say BAHADUR ( brave) innings" For what it's worth, I thought he battered it like a badmash. But what would I know?
Anyhow, that's your lot for this evening. Thanks for dropping by. Have a read of David Hopps' match report before you go, and from myself, Andrew Miller, and Gnasher, good night and see you next week for match No. 3.
Peter: "Len Hutton? What about Peter May....." Nah, I can never forgive him for his stint as chairman of selectors
thumped into the leg side
Irfan calls for another bat. Perhaps he'd prefer to use a stepladder
Osama: "sarfaraz I salute you....such a DARPOOK (Urdu) Innings " I assumed it wasn't Swahili...
flat-batted into the leg-side again
another big wind-up, but no contact this time, other than ball on thigh pad
there's six of them! Slower ball, too short, Yasir was anchored on the back foot and that has travelled way over midwicket!
Omarr: "104 need off 34 balls? Even Afridi was unable to do that.. He managed 102 off 37"
Waqar khairi: "Way too many comments involving misbah and afridi. I guess we will never be over them" I'm still not over Len Hutton
lovely line, a cutter, nipping back in as Sarfraz attempts a back-foot drive but is cramped for room by the grip off the surface, and Buttler tidies up
slower-ball bouncer, pulled round the corner without much timing
Qasim Anwar: "why they keep playing the song Mama de Mama de and why does that singer want mama?" Everyone needs their mama sometimes. Especially at 180 for 8...
short and through to the keeper
tidy drive, but straight to the fielder
forward, pushed to cover, Sarfraz is already halfway down so why not make it a run?
david: "Pakistan's situation quite needy / A hell of a slump, yes indeedy! / They're truly bereft / No boom-booms are left / Won't somebody send for Afridi?"
attractively eased out to square leg for another notch on the scoreboard. Holding the flourish on that leg glance
Mubariz: "This is why I love Pakistan. #nevergiveup. By the way why isnt Ahmed Shahzad playing ?" One of the many mysteries that is Pakistan cricket
outside off, dabbed down to third man
full toss, walloped on the up and clean through the covers. That will keep the embers glowing!
nothing doing there
round the wicket, another attempted sweep thumps into the front pad. Well outside off stump
Gumnam Kumar: "@Miller On Afridi Comment, I'll have what you're having!" G&T please. Make it a double, this match is cooked!
attempted sweep, struck outside the line
Reginald: "Sarfaraz has been black adder and the rest of his teammates have been baldricks...... " Haven't spotted many cunning plans though
thumped out to deep cover again. He's timing it well and seeing it even better
sweet timing, a beautiful square drive. A less beautiful full-length dive to make his ground as he comes back for two
battered, hard into the covers. Hales intercepts the boundary
