there's the game! Peterson steps away and slams it through the covers, roaring with delight as the ball threads the gap and races away
India vs South Africa, 29th Match, Group B at Nagpur, Mar 12 2011 - Ball by Ball Commentary
South Africa win by three wickets, they had obviously planned their chase and pulled it off superbly at the end. Chokers? Not at all, this was a fighting performance from their lower order under real pressure. Fifties from Amla, Kallis and de Villiers formed the bulk of their effort, but there were contributions all through the order. South Africa move up to third on the Points Table with the win, India remain top with 7 points.
Robin Peterson: "I'm extremely ecstatic at the moment. To have a great game with so many great innings was such a good advert for the world cup. I've got to give Johan [Botha] credit, he put them under pressure with that cameo. We were quite calm in the changing room, but it was nice to come out on the winning side!"
M S Dhoni: "We just needed the bowlers to bowl in the right spot, but they were under tremendous pressure. The batsman played well, and if you're not bowling in the right spot more often than not you get hit. Bhajji was the only other choice for the last over, but I thought it would be better to use the seamer. Maybe I was wrong, but I thought that was the better option.
"The second powerplay, what is important is you don't play for the crowd you play for your country. We should have batted the full fifty overs. If we could have fielded better we could've made the score look bigger, but we're not a side known for our fielding."
Graeme Smith: "For 25 overs up front we took a beating, but for the other 75 we came back really hard and showed some real fight. The guys showed a lot of composure, it was helluva noisy out here. Dale bowled well, and to chase down the runs under pressure is great. The confidence you get out of a win like this is huge. I haven't seen Robbie [Peterson] hit the ball that clean in a long time, we've backed him in this world cup and he's performed. We can get on a run now, we've had long breaks between our games but we're playing every three or four days now."
Dale Steyn is Man of the Match for his five wickets: "After my first five overs I was staring down the barrel, but we pulled it backed beautifully. A great team performance. Once we picked up one wicket, we picked up another and we started build up pressure and a wave of energy on the field that we could capitalise on."
And there you have it. India's collapse of 9 for 29 at the end really hurt them there, what could an extra 20 to 30 runs have done? South Africa will take so much confidence from the way they played under pressure here. The field comes up
inswinging yorker in the blockhole! But he jams down on it, the ball rolls down to fine leg and they push really hard for the second ... scores level! Direct hit but Peterson slides home in time
six runs! Peterson was walloped the leather off this one, sending the ball sailing over cow corner. His team-mates are whooping and cheering in the changing room!
huge swipe, Peterson was aiming for the stratosphere there but a thick inside edge shot past the stumps and Dhoni and down to fine leg. That's so unlucky for the bowler!
13 needed from the last over, and Peterson is on strike. Nehra to bowl, Zaheer runs across to offer him some advice. The crowd is chanting, great atmosphere out there, electric stuff. Another break as the batsman have a chat.
Du Plessis misses out on a juicy full toss! That was there to be hit, he jumped out of his crease but just tried to smash it too hard. His head was in the air, he was off balance. He could've hit that on either side of the wicket but doesn't lay bat on it.
good shot, hammered out into the off side but straight to the cover sweeper
Peterson walks down, Zaheer slips in a full, fast yorker well wide of off, and it slips under the bat! Another dot ball, the crowd are cheering each one!
another yorker, great bowling. This one is dug out to cover point
confusion, confusion! Peterson digs out to the off side, Du Plessis sets off but he goes nowhere ... the cover fielder picks up and throws to Zaheer, fortunately for the batsman the throw is not great, Zaheer collects and knocks the bails off but Peterson is home. Tense stuff!
Mid-off is up, long-on is out
Du Plessis uses his feet but the ball is speared at his toes, dug out on the leg side
Zaheer to bowl his last over. The match could be won or lost by either team in the next six balls
Faf skips out of his crease and drives down to long on, one run the result and South Africa now want 17 from 12
and then a wicket! Botha had just hit two boundaries and he wanted a third, swinging really hard but the ball swirled up off the top edge over the covers ... Suresh Raina, the substitute fielder, runs across and holds a great catch, the ball coming from behind him. Another one goes, and the match continues to hang in the balance!
on a length and straight, that's where Botha wanted it and he heaves through the line to send the ball sailing straight back over the bowler's head. Six runs!
swung away on the leg side, it was hit hard and beat a diving midwicket fielder ... Kohli charged across on the boundary and put in a great dive, getting a hand to it but it's not enough to stop the boundary
full outside off, driven wide of long-off and that's two more
atrocious delivery, a high full toss way outside off - it would've been a wide if he hadn't slapped it out to deep cover. Du Plessis rues not getting a better connection on that, it was there to be hit
full toss outside off, he's driven hard and just wide of long-off, they're back for two
wow, how did that miss off stump? Botha swings across the line, a quicker ball skids on and almost shaves the off stump. So close!
Botha lines up a huge slog sweep, but the eyes were closed on that one and he can't get anything on it
down the wicket to try and get to the pitch, he almost yorks himself in the process but lays enough on it to get the ball down to long-off
quick and flat on leg stump, clipped out to long leg
dropped down close on the leg side, quick single. Harbhajan still coming round the wicket
