Hosts Malaysia gave their fans plenty to cheer about as they beat Zimbabwe comprehensively courtesy a compact all-round performance in Johor. Zimbabwe's bowlers kept a tight leash over Malaysia, restricting them to 194 in their allotted 50 overs, but could only muster a disappointing 124 in reply. Malaysia's captain, Ahmed Faiz, top-scored with an even fifty while Shahid Ali Khan (40) and Faizal Abu Hasan (30) chipped in with vital knocks. Daniel Landman, the medium-pacer, starred for Zimbabwe with 3 for 34.

Chasing 195, Zimbabwe stuttered at regular intervals. Opener Tendai Mashonganyika's 24 from 42 balls was the best score of the innings and there were three 0s along the way. No real partnerships were allowed to form and Malaysia's Shahid Aslan, a right-arm medium-pacer, grabbed 3 for 41 to skittle out the lower order. The real damage, however, came from Aminudin Ramly (2 for 20 from ten) and offspinner Nik Azril (2 for 15 from eight), who kept a tight hold over the scoring. This win has done plenty for Malaysia's confidence.

West Indies U-19s 319 (Jacobs 101, Powell 60, Bravo 59, Nou 4-63) beat Papua New Guinea U-19s 143 (Dawes 4-25) by 176 runs

Steven Jacobs smashed an 86-ball 101 as West Indies rattled 319 against Papua New Guinea in Kuala Lumpur and the minnows folded under the mountain of runs. A total of 143 was all they could post in reply, failing to bat out their full quota of overs.

West Indies also had handy contributions from Darren Bravo, the brother of the more illustrious Dwayne, who clattered 59 and Keiran Powell, who got the innings off to a rollicking start with a 35-ball 60. Loa Nou, the medium-pacer, ended with 4 for 63 but there was little else to speak of. Jason Dawes, West Indies' opening bowler, added four or his own to rock PNG's top order. No. 3 Tony Ura hit a breezy 31 from 21 balls but failed to press on and with no substantial partnerships formed, PNG wilted under the run rate and were all out in 37.1 overs.

Bangladesh U-19s 126 for 2 (Ashraful Hossain 71*) beat Ireland U-19s 123 (Mahmudul 4-17) by eight wickets

Bangladesh coolly knocked off a target of 124 with eight wickets in hand, as opener Ashraful Hossain hit an unbeaten 71 to support a polished effort in the field against Ireland in Kuala Lampur.

It all went Bangladesh's way from the start. Offspinner Mahmudul Hasan's four-wicket haul shot Ireland out for 123 in 43.4 overs, with only James Shannon contributing a patient 73-ball 31. Bangladesh pegged away with wickets at regular intervals to set themselves a meager total. Ashraful and Mohammad Mithun (31 from 24 balls) then launched an opening stand of 63 in 9.2 overs. Ticking along at a strike-rate of nearly 90, Ashraful collected 14 boundaries in his innings and the runs were knocked off in the 23rd over.

Sri Lanka U-19s 247 for 7 (Thirrimanne 68, Silva 51*) beat Namibia U-19s 84 (Pathirana 4-31) by 163 runs

Namibia proved no challenge for Sri Lanka, who made 247 for 7 and then bowled out the opposition for just 84 in Penang. Having elected to bat, Sri Lanka were boosted by half-centuries from Lahiru Thirimanne and Roshen Silva. Sri Lanka's batsmen shared vital partnerships to close in on the 250-mark and Namibia, using eight bowlers, couldn't keep them from posting a healthy total.

Their batting, however, was pitiful. Opener Seann Silver was bowled by Denuwan Fernando first ball as the scoring was suffocated from the get-go. Raymond van Schoor held up one end with a 53-ball 16 but the rest fell like nine-pins. Fernando finished with an economical 3-19 and Sachith Parithana picked up a handy 4-31 to run through the middle and lower orders.
