short of a good length, outside the off, chopped away in front of point and that's an easy couple to seal the game
Bangladesh vs Pakistan, 23rd Match, Group F at Cape Town, Sep 20 2007 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Pakistan have won here, by four wickets, in a match that did not matter much. But you have to say Pakistan were nowhere near at their best against Bangladesh. Perhaps they found it hard to sustain the intensity with nothing at stake. However, even that was enough to get past Bangladesh who batted pretty frantically, with the exception of Junaid Siddique who made 71 in his first match of the tournament.
The Man of the Match for this game is Junaid Siddique for his excellent debut.
Asharful says: "We were 10-15 runs short." He talks of his team's experiences, saying, "We've done well in patches. We beat West Indies and played decent cricket. It's a learning experience for us. I think we've had a pretty ok tournament."
Malik says: "You must give the spinners credit. They bowled superbly, putting the ball in the right places. That's why they got wickets." He adds, "I asked Afridi where he wanted to open. He said he'd like to open and that's good for us."
This is Anand Vasu, signing off from this game. Do join us for the crucial India v South Africa match that's coming up in a little while.
driven inside out and powerfully but straight to the man at cover
short one banged in. There are two fielders in the deep for the ball. Mortaza can't get much bounce from this pitch at his pace, though. The ball sits up a bit and Nazir pulls well in fron of square for another boundary
short of a good length and on the pads, clipped away off the hips for a single
full and on the stumps, Nazir drops the ball to the on side with soft hands and scampers a single
quick, on the off, quite full, Nazir opens the face of the bat and runs the ball just wide of the wicketkeeper. No-one's going to stop that one and Pakistan get close to the target
flat and on the off, dabbed to the off side for a quick single. Ashraful fields but does not pick up the ball cleanly. If he had done so ...
short of a length and wide outside the off, big slashing cut played and missed
full and on the stumps, bit of loop there, dug out towards cover
tossed up and on the stumps, defended back down the pitch to the bowler
flat, quicker, on the stumps, defended away to the off side for a quick single
full and on the stumps, driven inside out through cover
full and on the stumps, defended back down the stumps with bat held close to pad
slightly short of a length and down the leg side, Nazir climbs into this one, launching it into the stands over square-leg. Shot!
full and down the leg side, helped along over the infield. There's a simple run. Salman Butt is sauntering about outside the crease, not trying properly to make his ground. Mushfiqur Rahim is alert - something Butt certainly wasn't - and throws the stumps down. This is incredibly sloppy cricket from someone who is attempting a comeback and has just been appointed vice-captain of the team.
short of a driving length and outside the off, played down towards point with an angled bat
short of a length and outside the off, cut down through point but not terribly well
short of a length and on the pads, Nazir works the ball through leg
short of a good length and outside the off, punched through cover off the front foot for a rare sensible and risk-free run
fullish and outside the off, driven inside out through cover
