David dishes out a desperate dive on the second and makes it. MI break their duck in IPL 2023. Not a yorker from Nortje this time. He bangs it on a hard length, punched down to long-off. David rushes back for the winning run, and dives. Warner's throw is too high. He should've fired it on the bounce to Porel. By the time the keeper gathers the high throw and breaks the bails, David is in. Joy for MI. Agony for DC. Another IPL thriller.
DC vs MI, 16th Match at Delhi, IPL, Apr 11 2023 - Match Result
11.21pm Nortje and Mustafizur put on a death-bowling masterclass, but MI's Impact Player Tim David has taken them home off the last ball. MI drag themselves off the bottom of the standings with their first win this season. "You look at the last three IPL games, amazing," David Warner says. "Wrong end of it today, but the guys were fantastic. Two balls were wrong and that's the game. We did well to bring it back in. Nortje is world-class and that's what we expect from the big fella. Mustafiz too. Timmy David was on the wrong side of it, so I tried to keep it [the throw] at stump-height. I think from the last three games, we've some positives but we shouldn't lose wickets in clumps. Axar should bat in the top four; he got us to a par total."
Rohit, MI captain and Player of the Match: Obviously, winning the game is the most important thing and it's a great feeling to cross the line. We've been working really, really hard and we had camps in Mumbai a couple of weeks before the tournament. To get the result feels really good and we're going to cherish this. We recently played a Test match here and this pitch didn't look different to that and looked dry. So, I thought it was important to get the slower bowlers into the game quickly. We thought 173 was chaseable, and everyone put their hand up. When I went to bat, I wanted to make full use of the powerplay because as the game went on, I thought it would be tough with the couple of quality spinners they had. We tried to create a partnership and good to see Tilak bat with that intent as well. We always knew it would be tough for the new batter to come and bat. Like you said, we got a lot of young guys and it's all about giving them confidence and trust in their ability. We want to have a healthy atmosphere and we don't want to make drastic changes based on results.
Green: Took the helmet off and thankfully it [the two] came off. The only conversation we had was to be busy and thankfully a few came off. There was pressure, but it's so much fun. Getting ten an over - that's why you're here. I knew when the ball came to Tim's end...he's a big boy and can dive.
Phew, that was another tense finish. Thanks for your company and comments. Until next time, this is Deivarayan Muthu signing off on the behalf of Andrew Miller and Thilak Ram. Goodbye and good night.
Divyank Singh: ""Axar should bat in the top 4", that was a much needed statement from the captain"
PV: "Axar, Porel, Fizz, Nortje, Lalit - many positives for DC !"
Samaresg: "This are the games which makes MI so dangerous .Hopefully this is the first of many this season "
MI need 2 off 1 ball. Change of bat for David. He keeps Nortje waiting
another terrific yorker on the stumps from Nortje, squeezed to midwicket. They pinch a single. Nortje breaks the stumps without gathering the throw
Afeef: "That was Lasith Malinga stuff by Anrich Nortje in that last over"
low full-toss on off, almost a perfect yorker, another top ball from Norje, sliced away to deep cover for just a single
another yorker veering down the leg side. Wide called. Porel thinks it may have brushed the pad. DC call for a review. When the ball is next to the bat, there's a spike. The wide call has been reversed
Dinesh: "@Jai I am sure Boucher won't agree with You :)"
Dropped at midwicket. 146ks full ball outside off, David drags it in the air but Mukesh drops a straightforward catch in the infield. That should've been taken. The tension continues to build up
accurate yorker, ducking into middle and leg, stabbed down the ground for a single
MI need 5 off 6 balls. Nortje to bowl the last over
Jai: "All South Africans are with Nortje. Go DC go..."
Tim David launches it over wide long-on Pollard-style. Back of a length and outside off, another cutter, David stands up tall and flat-bats it powerfully over the boundary. Bam! What a shot
wide yorker, which is stabbed away through point
Green clears deep midwicket. Another slower offcutter from Mustafizur, grips the surface. Green hits it in the air, he does not middle it, but still clears the outfielder
on-pace hard-length delivery outside off, punched away to deep cover for just a single
another cutter from Mustafizur. He takes it away from the reach of David who swings for the hills and misses
Shubham: "All Australians are with MI,Go Green and Tim David"
high full-toss on leg stump, flapped away through square leg. Is this a beamer? Nope. They don't review it either
just short of a yorker length on off, but it's still a good delivery. Nortje keeps David to a single to long-on
Arif: "All the Bangladeshis are behind DC. Go Fizz!!"
full-toss on the stumps, shovelled away between deep midwicket and wide long-on
Kushal Mehta: "@Kartik: Tilak Verma has shown the consistency. Plus he bowls good part time off spin, something that is missing in the Indian top order."
another full-toss on the stumps. This is clipped more or less straight to Axar at deep midwicket
just short of a yorker length and outside off, stabbed back to Nortje
low full-toss on the stumps, whipped away to the left of deep midwicket. David rushes back for the double
Shyam: "Time for the two big aussies to finish the job.."
full and wide of off, swished straight to cover-point
Nortje. He will operate from over the wicket
shortish and angling across off, Green latches onto the width and thrashes it through the gap at point for a first-ball four
Green has joined David
Reetam: "This pitch would have been perfect for Sakariya. Wonder how come DC didn't pick him in place of Mukesh"
Whoa! Sensational catch from Porel. He throws himself to his right and comes out with the ball in his right hand. Given out caught behind. Rohit has asked for a review. Wide yorker from Mustafizur. Rohit jams his bat down on the ball. Not a bump ball. Ultra Edge confirms it. Superbly taken by Porel. Top decision from umpire Gough. Rohit throws his head back and drags himself off the field
