Disturbs the furniture! Naveen takes a fifer and he is on the money, slow ball aiming for the top of off and wrecking the stumps to seal an emphatic win over Giants
Warriors vs Giants, 14th Match at Dubai, ILT20, Jan 23 2023 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That is all for tonight's coverage of ILT20. Do join us tomorrow for the match between Desert Vipers and MI Emirates in Abu Dhabi. From Chandan Duorah and myself (Rvel Zahid), it's goodbye and goodnight!
Warriors register an emphatic win after pulling off a sensational bowling performance. Naveen-ul-Haq took a brilliant fifer but it was Chris Woakes who strangled the opposition with an incredible display of swing bowling upfront. He was too good for the Giants' batters and that opening burst pushed Giants to the wall. Only Chris Lynn, David Wiese and Chris Jordan got into double figures as wickets fell at regular intervals on a tricky surface where the ball was holding up and not coming nicely onto the bat. Once again, credit to Warriors bowlers for nailing their variations and stymieing the run-flow. Excellent spell from Junaid Siddique who stuck to his guns and got the massive breakthroughs of Banton and Hetmyer. Warriors have now registered back-to-back wins and move up to the fourth position while Gulf Giants still hold their grip on the top spot
Naveen-ul-Haq, Player of the Match: "Got lucky, to be honest, but that's the nature of the game. Great to contribute to the team's win. Some times when you attack, you get hit but that's how it goes and that's how I play my game and I will try to control my swing batter, I haven't bowled that many sides before."
Moeen Ali: "Great win in the end. It was swinging and we wanted to make the most of the powerplay, Woakes was outstanding tonight. Hopefully, we are peaking at the right time. Just felt today I was not needed to bowl."
James Vince: "(The surface) was trickier to bat on, the way they bowled upfront was brilliant. 150 odd on this ground, you are always in the game chasing but a few soft dismissals at the top. We're halfway through the group stages now, (we'll) try and be a little sharp in that next game."
Flexes his muscles and launches it again, tried to whack it out of the park, but didn't get all of it and found the fielder at wide long-on, Nabi hangs on to a good catch
Clobbered! Juicy delivery in the arc. Very easy for Jordan to show the long handle and heave the ball over the rope, went over long-off, two sixes in a row!
Round the wicket, dug into the pitch, sits up nicely for him smear it over long-off into the crowd! Right out of the screws
Tempting delivery from Siddique, lures him to go for the heave over leg side, beaten for lack of pace and it goes through to the keeper. Fine spell comes to an end 3/26
Doesn't miss the yorker by much and he drags it down to long-off for a run
Cleverly bowled once again, not giving pace to work with as he dinks it on the rise to cover
Helps it on its way to fine leg for a run
Dug in angling into the body, he goes for the pull and finds fielder at deep square's right
Over the wicket, well disguised shorter delivery slating outside off, throws his bat at it and it falls short of the man at deep cover-point
Length ball on off, drilled down to long-off for a run
Play and a miss! Short delivery, whooshes away on off stump and just goes over the bails but the zingers are lit-up even though the ball didn't hit it
Stunning fielding at short fine! On a full length around leg stump line, he thrashes it merrily across the line but finds the fielder perfectly stationed in the ring
Halfway down the track, just inside the tramlines, gets some bat on it and the ball goes flying towards deep backward point
Sprays it too short and goes wide of off, far away from batter's reach
Shorter length, shaping away from the batter on off, nudged off the pads across the line and he is off in a flash
That's a good comeback from the bowler, pulls his length back, takes the pace off and angled in from outside off, he was early into the shot and failed to connect, 11 off the over
Loose delivery from Naveen and duly dispatched over extra cover! Impeccable timing and placement and hits the six with no fuss.
Banged in short, a little wide of off, thrashed away behind square on the leg side for a four, cleared the men inside the ring and it runs away all along the grass banks, Jordan hasn't given up
Back of a length, outside off, nurdles the ball down to deep third
Gets the big fish! Just a bit short on an attacking off stump line, he tried to get on top of the bounce but couldn't clear long-off who takes an easy catch with hands in front of his face. Wiese was the last glimmer of hope for Giants
Round the wicket, pitched on a shorter length around the line off, stays back and runs it down to short third's right
