Short, skiddy, angling into the pads, tris to flick looking ungainly, hurtles down the pitch and fielder hits the bull's eye at non-striker's end. Third umpire will take a look, bat is in the air when the ball smashed the stumps. It's an excellent throw from Haider Ali from backward point and Sabir Ali, with a lackadaisical effort, loses his wicket Dubai Capitals register a commanding win by 85 runs!
DC vs KnightRiders, Eliminator at Abu Dhabi, ILT20, Feb 13 2024 - Match Result
Hope you enjoyed our coverage of the Eliminator and we hope you'll join us tomorrow for the mouthwatering Qualifier 1 clash between Gulf Giants and MI Emirates! Until then, this is Rvel Zahid saying goodbye and goodnight!
That marks the end of Abu Dhabi Knight Riders' campaign, while Dubai Capitals have booked a spot in Qualifier 2 What a powerful performance from Dubai Capitals on the big night! They have momentum on their side and will hope to give a tough time to the loser of the Qualifier 1! Capitals didn't put a foot wrong against lackluster Knight Riders and several players put up their hand and stepped up in the crucial knockout game. Tom Banton, Tom Abell, Sam Billings, and then Sikandar Raza all contributed with the bat superbly and got an above-par total on this tricky pitch. In reply, Jason Roy and Michael Pepper were back in the hut in single figures as Scott Kuggeleijn and Olly Stone wreaked havoc with the new ball, stringing a barrage of dots and exerted enormous pressure. Stone, in particular, was generating lightning-fast pace and made life tough for the batters with his accuracy and fierce bounce. Thereon, Zahir Khan and Sikandar Raza didn't let them get off the hook with their clever spinning methods as Knight Riders surrendered meekly in front of a charged-up bowling attack, which was far superior to theirs
Sunil Narine, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders Captain: Yeah, think they got 15-20 too many. This tournament powerplay is the key. We had a decent tournament; there are some positives we could take. All in all, it was good, just didn't come off today.
Sam Billings, Dubai Capitals Captain: We've played couple of games here, getting yourself in is always tricky, that has been the trend of the tournament. You can get a decent score once you go past 10-20. (Openers) allowed middle order to keep going, very happy (with the score), communication was 160-plus would be a really good score. We felt we were over-par with the score. (On fast bowling) They compliment each other brilliantly, Scott swings the new ball, Stone hits the deck harder, more off a seam bowler. They have always set the tone. Yeah, the mindset has been brilliant; we know if keep playing good cricket, we are going to be hard to beat
Sikandar Raza, Player of the Match: Any role is given to me, I'm happy to do it as long as I've practiced it in the nets (done it before). We did't think it was a 189 wicket. We thought it was a 160 wicket. We're pretty confident when we got 189, when we got wickets in powerplay, we thought we were in the game. Those guys (Scott Kuggeleijn and Olly Stone) have been standing up for us in every game. These are the guys we rely on. Scotty got a four-fer today; those two guys keep turning up for us and. I'm going to see those Zimbabwe fans (in the stands), spend some time with them and have a bit of banter with them.
Puzzled him completely with a slower one on a length wide of off, sheepish attempt at steering that one away
Pitched up, attacking the stumps and he manages to shield them
Bowls an off-cutter and he tries slam it over cover but finds Banton inside the ring at mid-off and the captain departs for one. His last appearance for Knight Riders this season.
Not sure how's that wide, looked inside the line to me on off
Chipped in the air straight back over the bowler's head, mid-off and long-on converging and Banton aborts his attempt at the catch, Stone slides as well and the ball falls between them
Length ball, wide of off, drags it across the line towards square of midwicket, mere formalities left, Knight Riders camp looks crestfallen, they will be getting their suitcases ready after this low-key performance
Over the wicket, pitched up just outside off, larrups it and it nearly carried to mid-off
Banged in short on middle, tries to heave it over midwicket, didn't get all of it, pace pace pace
Hostile bumper following him and he got stuck on the crease, managed to get his bonce away from the line in the end
Shortish errant bowl outside leg stump, will have to reload
Round the wicket, intimidating short of a length ball at middle, play and a miss
Short and sliding towards his hips, late on flicking that away
Gottim with a beauty! Last ball of his spell. Comes round the wicket, lands it fuller on middle with little bit of turn, completely bamboozles him, he was expecting more turn I guess and can't get behind it, wanted to plonk it across the line. Raza couldn't have asked for a better ending to his spell, clearly the favorite for the Player of the Match award.
Clattered fiercely along the ground towards extra cover for a couple
Straight up in the air and Banton ran too far at long-on I reckon, Raza is not amused at all! Tossed up with plenty of flight and lures him with the bait to go for a big loft down the ground and Banton wasn't at the edge of the circle, catchable for sure
Tossed up fuller and well wide of off, thumps it up and over cover for a majestic boundary, everything so right about that stroke!
Dropped short on leg, eased towards square leg's left for a run
Stays deep in the crease and plays a late cut, can't pierce the gap
Dubai Capitals in cruise control, Abu Dhabi haven't got much batting left
Finishes the over with a rippperr! Tossed up and gets it to turn away viciously outside off, draws him forward and beats his cut
