and that is that. There was no one on the boundary, and Karthik puts the slower length ball away calmly, hitting inside-out over extra-cover, and it rolls slowly to the boundary to give Lions a six-wicket win.
Kings XI vs Guj Lions, 47th match at Mohali, May 07 2017 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Guj Lions won by 6 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)
11.48pm That's it from all of us. As one of our readers pointed out earlier, a hat-trick of West Indian MoMs: Lendl Simmons yesterday, Sunil Narine in the afternoon game, and now Dwayne Smith. Smith's innings today consigned Kings XI to a defeat that will leave them with a very difficult path to the play-offs. To get there, they might (and probably will) need to beat Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant, the top three teams on the table. They will have to do this without Hashim Amla, who scored another century in a losing cause today, and David Miller.
The league stage is drawing to an exciting close, so do keep tuning in to our commentary, and do keep sending in your feedback. Until next time, good night!
Dwayne Smith is the player of the match. "Still disappointed about my performances over the past games. I think my natural game is like that, it was just about staying out there as long as possible, and if I do that we'll stay in front of the run rate. Real good pitch, judging from where I was fielding, I knew once I stay out there, runs will come for sure. We're already out of the tournament, so we can't worry about that, we just need to keep going on and look to damage some other teams as well."
Suresh Raina: "Smithy and Ishan gave us the platform and later on me and DK had a good partnership. I think it was about six-over partnerships. Sandy and Mohit bowled brilliantly in between, but me and DK rotated the strike really well. When you're chasing 190, you need a good start, and that's what we've had in the last couple of matches. Too many injuries as a side. Still a good season for the youngsters."
"Pretty devastating," Glenn Maxwell says. "189 was enough, the bowlers and fielders let us down. We dropped three crucial catches. We haven't won a heap of games in a row. We've had to scrap. Unfortunately, we'll lose Hashim and David Miller now, and we'll have to look deep in our reserves and regroup."
Batting first this season, Lions have played 6, won 0, and lost 6. Batting second? Played 6, won 4, lost 2.
11.33pm The curse of the Amla century continues. It wasn't his fault Kings XI lost, though. As mentioned earlier, he scored 104 off 60 and his team-mates only 82 off 60. Set 190 to win on a flat batting pitch, Lions raced away thanks to Dwayne Smith's 39-ball 74, and were always ahead after that. Kings XI didn't help themselves by dropping three catches. A bit of a wobble from the chasing team at the end, but the pressure told on Kings XI's bowlers and fielders rather than Lions' batsmen.
Dot ball! It's the wide yorker, attempted at least. Ends up as a full-toss. Karthik swings hard, gets a thin outside edge that bounces a second time before reaching the keeper
Back over the wicket to Karthik. The fielders come in now. Don't know if anyone's back at all.
in the blockhole, leg-stumpish. Clipped down the ground to long-on
Left-arm around to Jadeja now.
and again. The pressure is really telling on Natarajan here. An attempted leg-stump yorker slides down the leg side
looks for the yorker at Jadeja's feet, ends up overdoing the angle and sliding down leg
Slanted full and wide, and he opens his bat face and steers to the left of deep point. They run two, and another inaccurate throw - Gurkeerat at the bowler's end - is fumbled by Natarajan, and he concedes another overthrow.
A bit of luck with that top-edged six, and the pressure was back on Kings XI. Aaron bowled that short, wide ball next ball, and then Marsh conceded that overthrow. Lions now need just eight off six. Who will bowl the last over?
It's Natarajan. Fine leg up, third man on the boundary. And deep point as well.
full-toss, flicked away to the left of deep midwicket
slower ball, back of a length outside off, opens his bat face to steer to the left of backward point. Unnecessary throw at the bowler's end from Marsh concedes an overthrow. It was inaccurate, the bowler had to hurry to collect, and fumbled
fuller now, angling into off stump, flat-batted firmly to long-off
short, wide, and this is a poor delivery from Aaron with third man and backward point inside the circle. Karthik deliberately sliced under that, and cut it over backward point
back of a length, angling into the body, and that's a highly fortunate six from Karthik. No boundaries in 17 balls before this, and he has a big slog at this. Top-edge, over the keeper, and it just keeps going and going and soars into the stands. Aaron's pace worked against him there.
slower length ball on off stump, eased to deep point with a straight bat
Tension, tension. Out of nowhere. Lions need two a ball in the last two overs.
Is that the third wicket of the over? If so, it's a run-out! Very full on the stumps, Jadeja clears his front leg and swipes to the right of long-on. They chance a second, and the dive saves Jadeja at the keeper's end, just about
slower ball on a good length outside off. Jadeja doesn't pick it, slogs and misses
Around the wicket to Jadeja.
Nakul: "This can get tricky if this over goes for 4-5 runs.I believe KXIP have been disciplined sunce getting Smith.!" -- Yup. A bit of that, and a bit of complacency from the batsmen as well. There was a definite dip in boundary-finding intent.
another bouncer, not the slower one this time, and it takes off steeply. Finch, looking to pull from over his right shoulder, gets a thin edge through to Saha, and are Kings XI back in this?
slower short ball, chest-high outside off. Finch spots it late, plays a controlled pull through square leg. The lack of pace on the ball allows them to run two
down the track and Sandeep shortens his length just enough while cutting down on room. Karthik defends to the on side and calls Finch through for a single
Here's Finch. DK on strike, though. The batsmen crossed over.
vital blow. Full on leg stump, Raina clears his front leg and looks to slog it away, he's working against the angle and can't middle it, and he skews it off the outside half of his bat. Gurkeerat takes one this time, moving to his right from deep midwicket
Good over from Aaron. Only four from it, and he should have had a wicket too. One more good over and Lions could get under a bit of pressure. Can Sandeep deliver it?
backs away from the stumps again and Aaron follows him with the shortish ball at the body. Bunted down the ground to long-on
yorker outside off, Raina makes too much room and ends up missing the ball while trying to squeeze it through point
