what an effort but Phillips cannot prevent the boundary! The Kings canter to a seven-wicket win by nine balls to spare! Full outside off again. Asalanka goes after it and shanks it towards long off. Phillips prioritizes the catch but is unable to get to it. Dives forward and because he could not reach it, the ball bobbles away past him and into the fence!
Colombo vs Jaffna, 13th Match at Dambulla, LPL, Jul 10 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Jaffna won by 7 wickets (with 9 balls remaining)
6:50pm That brings us to the end of our coverage for this game. But don't go anywhere, we have more LPL action lined up for you. Andrew Fidel Fernando will be bringing all the action from the evening encounter between the Galle Marvels and the Kandy Falcons. Until next time, from me, Chetan and Ranjith, this is goodbye!
Rilee Rossouw, Player of the Match: (On what changed after a slow start to the season) We moved to this ground (laughs). Kandy was a bit slow and not a batter's paradise. This has been beautiful (to bat on). (On how he approaches the innings) You give yourself a bit of time, see if it is a flat wicket and then you can go hard. We have batting till No.9 so you can have intent from the first ball. I love being at three, but I am happy to bat wherever my team needs me.
Charith Asalanka, Jaffna Kings captain: I should give credit to the bowlers. At one point, I felt they could have gone to 220 but we pulled it back very nicely. Thinking was that he (Rossouw) had a better record batting at three. Myself and the coach had a chat and told him to bat three, and he was fairly happy. We want to continue doing good things (after moving to Colombo).
Thisara Perera, Colombo Strikers captain: (On the collapse) Tough day, we started well but could not execute our middle part. We have to think about what we have to do in Colombo. (On swapping wicket-keepers today) Normally, Gurbaz is a proper wicket-keeper. We gave a chance to Sadeera (earlier in the tournament) and these are proper keepers, so they can do (the job behind the stumps).
6:36pm Ravishing Rossouw. That was the story of this innings. A clinical run-chase in the end, and it was all down to the partnership between Avishka and Rossouw. Both of the Kings' openers fell cheaply but that did not deter the pair. Rossouw began the fireworks, with Avishka following suit soon after. Even when Avishka departed, Rossouw was not to be halted, registering the fastest-ever hundred in the competition and just the second ton in LPL cricket in a run-chase. Rossouw's knock was so good that towards the end, we almost started running out of superlatives.
Another iffy outing for the Strikers with the ball. Their fielding was not great, but their tactics with the ball were questionable too. Wellalage, who bowled beautifully in the powerplay, did not bowl thereafter and by the time Pathirana arrived, the game had arguably passed them by. Shadab was also held back, perhaps because of Rossouw's presence and those decisions, along with a general lack of penetration, meant the Strikers, despite starting off well, could not curb the Kings.
slower ball that lands right in the slot outside off. Asalanka chips it over extra cover but Phillips hares around from long off to rein it in
low full toss outside off. Rossouw brings out the sweep and helps it towards square leg for a single
Just six needed. Can the Kings finish it off in this over? Binura to bowl

back of a length on middle and off. Rossouw absolutely laces his short-arm jab but cannot beat deep mid wicket. Just a single
the Rossouw show continues! Juicy full toss outside off and Rossouw will have that for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Arches his back to get under it and carves it over cover!
low full toss outside off. Asalanka pushes it out towards deep point
full and wide outside off. Rossouw skips down the track and slices it towards deep point
full and wide outside off. Rossouw thinks about throwing his hands at it before bailing out at the very end
back of a length on off. Bounces a touch extra and takes Rossouw by surprise. He does well to ride it and dab it towards deep backward point
a hundred to savour! What a knock by Rilee Rossouw, and he soaks in all the applause from his teammates! The fastest in LPL history! Half-volley outside off. Rossouw leans into the drive and caresses it past extra cover. Stunning, stunning batting!
slower ball on a full length on middle and off. Asalanka eases it to long off
full on the pads. Rossouw tucks it away into the leg side
The fastest hundred ever in the LPL came off 50 balls earlier this season when Kusal Perera managed it
full and wide outside off. Rossouw wafts at it but is a little late on the stroke. Gurbaz cannot gather cleanly again but no damage done this time
moves on to 95! On the fuller side outside off. Rossouw advances, uses the width and knifes it past short third!
nabeel: "Bizarre piece of captaincy from Perera as not bowling Wellalage who bowled beautifully in powerplay and not bowling your leading wicket taker along with delay of pathirana when Rossouw and Avishka were batting so well is unjustifiable. " -- Possibly down to Rossouw being at the crease, but yes, given the tap the other bowlers were taking, Wellalage was definitely worth a go
low full toss outside off. Rossouw gets down on one knee and drags it towards deep mid wicket
Run-a-ball needed now. 25 off 25
into the fence like a tracer bullet! Slot ball on middle and leg. Rossouw opens up his stance, goes through the line and blasts it past long on!
