And that's the winning run! Off a bye, nonetheless! It's dug in short outside off and it goes over the batter and the keeper. Unicorns win with 28 balls to spare!
Los Angeles vs SF, 4th Match at Dallas, MLC, Jul 07 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
SF won by 6 wickets (with 28 balls remaining)
11pm Alright then, that's all the action we have for you today. The big win sees San Francisco Unicorns shoot up to the top of the table, despite being the last team to play. On behalf of Himanshu and Binoy, this is Abhimanyu signing off.
10.50pm Time for the presentation ceremony.
Finn Allen is the player of the match. "I think took a bit too long to get used to the pace of the wicket. Me and Jake were looking to get going early. The way Shorty came out and struck the ball straight away took the pressure off me and I could just build a partnership with him."
Unicorns captain Corey Anderson: "It was nice to sit and watch Finn and Shorty take the game away from them. The boundaries aren't big. The ball just seems to travel here. There isn't a heap of moisture. I think the great thing about our lineup is the guys at the top, the way they play their game is very aggressive and you have to let them express themselves. That's going to come with some ups and downs. Brody [Couch] was outstanding today."
LAKR captain Sunil Narine: "Think we fell around 15-20 runs short. I think you have to think about actually taking wickets instead of just trying to bowl dot balls. The batters have to dig deep. We still got to about 160 so it's not bad. I back myself in whatever decisions I make. It didn't work today but hopefully things will be better next game on."
10.45pm A ruthless display of aggression from Finn Allen and Matthew Short has set up a comfortable, NRR-boosting win for San Francisco Unicorns in their first game of the season. Allen and Short both hit rapid half-centuries to take the momentum away from LAKR completely. Spencer Johnson took three wickets, but the damage was already done by the time he and Narine got rid of the dangerous duo. Russell's late cameo for Knight Riders proves to not be nearly enough. The Unicorns bowlers initially did a good job in restricting LAKR to 165, with none of their batters being allowed to convert their starts.

Banged in short and Inglis goes for the pull, and he ends up skying it high in the air. Chand moves to his left and watches as the ball settles into his gloves. And with that, Spencer Johnson moves to the top of the wicket charts this season!
Oh and a misfield! That means Unicorns have shaved off four of the nine required! Length ball around off, Inglis just runs it fine on the off side. Deep third moves to his left and slides, but makes a mess of it!
Just the nine runs needed. Can the Unicorns finish the game off in this over? Spencer Johnson to bowl it
On a length on leg, Anderson can't connect. Narine has a mild appeal, but the umpire isn't interested
This time he nails the slog sweep! Tossed up in the slot on off and Anderson smokes it over square leg
