Cricket Australia XI succeeded in shaping the outcome of the Matador Cup by denying Queensland the bonus point they needed to be any chance of making the finals.
The Bulls batted first at Drummoyne Oval and posted a healthy tally thanks mainly to a sweetly timed hundred from Nathan Reardon.
Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja, both named in the Prime Minister's XI to face the New Zealand tourists on Friday in Canberra, also contributed half-centuries but would have wanted more.
The CA XI chase was stricken by the loss of four wickets for 12 from a platform of 0 for 60, before Seb Gotch and Hilton Cartwright rallied.
Gotch fell short of his 50 but Cartwright carried on to 99, showing considerable poise and power even as Mark Steketee, another PM's XI inclusion, went through the lower order.
Sadly for Cartwright, a maddening run-out prevented him from being the first player from the new team to crack three figures, but he had at least made a strong impression.
