7.07pm Right, it was a long but thrlling ride bringing you this second T20I from Johannesburg. Terrific stuff from both teams, and South Africa just played a few of the percentages better with both bat and ball on the night. Pakistan return home without a trophy, but they can sign off with a win in the third and final match of the series, which comes your way wherever you join us from on Wednesday. For the moment, this is Debayan Sen signing off on behalf of all of my colleagues across the globe at ESPNcricinfo. Stay well and follow the game
Veni-Vidi-Dicti: "I just realised that I said Andrew Miller instead of David Miller in my comment with the prediction of the MoM and MoS earlier." --- Can't blame you...with all the cricket, it was just that kind of day for all of us at ESPNcricinfo too. Tune in to Stories on our Instagram or Facebook handle.
David Miller is the man of the match: "Very happy about that result. Got quite tight and stressful. The guys pulled through. (Last overs) You have to swing from the hip, and we got some momentum into our bowling effort. (Response when Azam was dismissed) We were a bit wide and short, and Sipamla was outstanding. The guys at the backend did really well. I thought I was the worst captain on the planet, to be honest, but they were always going to go hard in the Powerplay. It's a slow wicket, so we tried to bowl as many cutters as possible, and it came off. Really pleasing to finish (the tour) off on a high. Today we didn't leave it till the last day."
Shoaib Malik at the presentation: "It was an exceptional game, but you wanted to win the game. Not like the previous one. This time we had the game, but we couldn't hit the last couple of boundaries. (On Babar) He's a class player. Especially when you are playing on a good pitch against a good attack, you have to play good cricketing shots. The game shouldn't have gone to the 20th over, when you had so many wickets in hand. It happens, and the ball was new, and when you hit so many boundaries, the set batsman should finish the game. The partnership was excellent, but finishing crucial games is where we're lacking. We're going to sit and talk about it, particularly the last overs. (Imad Wasim) Of course, if some bowls 3 overs in the Powerplay and contains the batsmen...he's an exceptional talent, and we need a couple of other guys to perform that way. You need 3-4 bowlers to do well, and then you end up chasing 160 on a good wicket. (On Miller) He was struggling throughout the series, but he's a class player, and if he gets going we have to have two or three plans to stop him. He took the game away from us. We were in the game till the 15th over. Later we were expecting to chase about 180 but we gave away some extra runs. Every game is a new game, and a new opportunity. Whatever's happened has happened. If we get a similar situation in the coming games, the goal is to stay calm and not panic."
Mobeen : "yes the match loss hurts but what hurts most is the breaking of the 11 series winning streak" -- All streaks do come to an end some day...
Ashish Rawat : "Who's MOM... Miller or one of the bowlers? " --- I would make an exception here and give it to Babar Azam. Pity he couldn't see his team through, but arguably the best individual performance today
Shaan: "So Pakistan is going home without winning any format on this SA tour. It seems Mickey might have to justify this some way?"
Hamza Shah: "All the focus will be on the batting collapse, but the batting punched above its weight in both matches. Problem was with the bowling. Horrendous. Shinwari and Hasan lost Pak this match."
6.45pm South Africa win by 7 runs, and with that they take a 2-0 lead and win the series!
What a bizarre meltdown from Pakistan! They lost six wickets for 34 runs in the last 24 balls, and to be honest, some of you readers did call it.Taking no credit away from the South African bowlers, particularly Morris and Phehlukwayo, who were outstanding in the last two overs, while under severe pressure. Made the line and length they wanted, and built on the good work by Beuran Hendricks. The South African seamers won this match, as much as some scrambled late-overs thinking from Pakistan lost it. But 189 was always going to be an imposing target...
Asad: "A game that Pakistan really should have won. Babars wicket the turning point. It wouldn't have been the turning point if Hussain took the charge being the set batsman. Really disappointing from Pakistan fan point of view to come close twice in big chases and lose both times."
Muhammad Zaib: "South Africa improve match by match They won 1st match by 6 runs now won by 7 runs may b they win the 3rd match by 8 runs"
Upesh sharma: "I used to watch cricket for pakistan's bowling and Afridi's batting but now i watch it for their world famous collapses."
"Hassan Ali was sent above the order in last over, are you kidding me? What the hell is going on in Pakistan dressing room," fumes Arslan Satti
swings, and misses! Full, fast and straight at the leg stump. Hasan was making way to go inside out, but was just beaten by the sheer pace and accuracy of this
Yasir.bawa: "WHAT A MATCH!!! WHAT A CROWD!! This match is worthy of a world cup final!"
Vinod Rajpal: "Both teams will choke this by manufacturing a TIE" --- Actually one reader did predict a Super Over, while Pakistan were humming along nicely with their chase
length, and he has gone across the line, and holed out! It was slower through the air, bowled with the knuckles, and he ended up top-edging a swing across the line, and it carried more or less straight to van der Dussen at backward square leg
Md: "Malik has a chance in 20th over to correct the wrong decision he made in the 20th over "
slower, outside off, and he throws the kitchen sink at it, but can only get it towards cover
10 from four. They can do with a boundary inside the next couple of balls
length, and he cuts it away, but cannot beat point
straight, and he drills this straight back past the non-striker. Power and precision!
Phehlukwayo into Malik now. Prayers all around the ground
Asadullah: "End of 19th over, SA were at 159 Pak on 174 . SA were rescued by Shinwari in 20th over Who's going to rescue Pak now "
Malik has the task of taking his team home in the last over
mid-stump goes flying! Full, straight, fast. No chance for Imad once he missed contact. If he had hit it, it might have flown straight over long on, but as it turned out, he was making contact with air. Is this the decisive over from Morris?
Pas: "Why such backlash against talat ? The dude was supporting babar splendidly to keep the required rate in check "
Ahmed Ashraf: "Usman shinwari is the difference between two teams.... Where is SA's shinwari"
slower ball, and he picks it...goes over mid off and clears him comfortably in the end!
full, straight, and he goes straight down the wicket. Miller goes across from long on and saves two for his team
Dhiren: "How can that be a no ball? If that is no ball then what was that in champions trophy final when Ravi Bopara hit ball above his height. Poor decision." --- Yes, I thought it was unlucky
BOWLED HIM! Full, and straight, at 130kph, and Talat swings across the line, praying that he connects! He can only get a little inside edge, which takes the ball right back on to the stumps. Important wicket at this juncture for South Africa
fuller ball, outside off, and he drives it down towards long on. They hustle and pick up two!
Fifty for Hussain Talat!
full toss, and he gets it between cover and mid off
27 from 12. If you are the bowler, how many do you want to defend in the last over?
Addendum to my earlier comment -- the batsmen did cross, but the run was considered only for the no-ball. That was because it was effectively the second bouncer for the over
full, outside off, and he smokes it towards point
full, outside off, and he pushes it towards extra cover
length, outside off, and he forces it away from the crease towards backward point
slower ball, outside off, and too wide. This extra ball will help soothen Pakistan nerves...
short ball, slow through the air, and he drags an attempted pull short, and straight down the throat of Reeza Hendricks at midwicket! Another twist, eh?
Durgesh Kulkarn: "How did the single off the no ball was considered? Wasnt ball become dead as soon as catch was taken? pathetic" --- They had crossed before the catch was taken. It did go a long way up!
fuller ball, and he drives it down to long on
slower ball, outside off, and he is able to get a thick edge down to third man for four!
Phehlukwayo comes back on
Mnkhan : "Unimpressed by Talat unless he finishes the game. Feel for Asif, he is thrown at such difficult stages of game without any time to set his eye in. Asif should bat ahead of Talat"
Terrific over from Beuran Hendricks. Could have had two wickets, or maybe even three!
full ball, swings into him, and he loads up for a big heave towards midwicket. They appeal for a leg-before, but then choose not to go for a referral
