Join us tomorrow for the last group stage match between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators. Feels a bit melancholy that we're already heading towards the end of yet another brilliant PSL season. For the moment, this is Rvel Zahid signing off on behalf of my colleagues at ESPNcricinfo.

Babar Azam, Player of the Match: We didn't expect that much turn from the pitch and it to be so soft. We tried to eye 150-160 and knew that target would have been difficult because it's not easy to play spinners. Usually pitches are good in Karachi but the turn was extra. You always have individual goals for every tournament and every tournament is an opportunity to improve and I wanted to improve (play different shots). Team is first for me and individual goals are secondary. Bowlers bowled according to what pitch demanded, especially I would like to applaud Saim (Ayub) even though he is not a genuine spinner but he made an impact and this is the beauty of PSL when youngsters perform well. We'll try not to repeat mistakes in playoffs. I planned to bowl today, got warmed up but didn't get a chance.

Both teams were engaged in a fierce tussle in search of a victory. PSL 9 served another exhilarating contest as Karachi Kings looked to finish the tournament on a high and Peshawar Zalmi were resolute on finishing in the top two. It's the lowest total ever defended in Karachi so credit to Zalmi for holding their nerve and stepping up in big moments. Brilliant work from both teams; you could see how much the game meant to all players. But in the end, Zalmi played a few of the percentages better and edged out the home side. Earlier, Karachi were superb with the ball and the likes of Arafat Minhas and Shoaib Malik were outstanding -- they created enormous pressure with the ball. It's good to see some exciting new talent in the shape of Arafat Minhas, Mehran Mumtaz and Irfan Khan Niazi. All these youngsters will give a good headache to the national selectors ahead of the T20 World Cup

Aamer Jamal to Irfan Khan, 1 bye

Maintains his composure and saw him shimming down leg, the yorker followed him, he got an inside edge to Haris and can only get a single so in the end Karachi came agonizingly close to a win but Peshawar have won it by the barest of margins. Peshawar players are jubilant after ending the league stage with a win and they're in top two!

Ovais Bajwa: "I lost for words if people are saying Baber's name for captain if that is the case than Pakistan must find someone who can write the captaincy for him because he unable to read the game and could only do what he was told to do Anyone but baber let him just bat. Please"

Ali Hasni: "Biryani lost from Chapli Kabab"

1
Aamer Jamal to Anwar Ali, 1 run

Thumped so hard into the surface and gets it bounce steeply off the deck, pulled away looking a bit ungainly into the leg side, scurries through a run. 4 off 1 Conference underway

19.4
4
Aamer Jamal to Anwar Ali, FOUR runs

Oh dear! Once again, gets it close to the blockhole, he gets down low and loads up for a huge biff over midwicket and ends up getting a fat inside edge that skittled away to deep fine leg boundary, now the equation doesn't look so out of hand, Jamal should have fired it at middle or off, or the wide yorker

19.3
4
Aamer Jamal to Anwar Ali, FOUR runs

Bustling in and bowls a good yorker dipping in at leg, gets enough on it to send it soaring away past backward square for a boundary, fortune favouring the batter on this occasion

19.2
2
Aamer Jamal to Anwar Ali, 2 runs

Haring in and lands it on a hard length at off, he goes for a powerful hoick through the leg-side, fielder at deep midwicket charges in and reels a sharp throw at the keeper's end

Aamer Jamal to Anwar Ali, 2 runs

Slung down full and just outside off, yanks his front leg out of the way and pushed it to Powell at wide long-on

pace-off strangling shortish ball angled across off, he clonks it across the line and finds the gap at deep midwicket, such a timely four, now Anwar needs to bring Niazi back on crease. 17 required off the last over, Zalmi will have to bowl poorly to botch this up

18.5
1
Wood to Anwar Ali, 1 run

Firing it fast and straight at the stumps, can only prod it down to long-on, this is getting daunting for Karachi

18.4
W
Wood to Pollard, OUT

That is a massive moment in the game! It nestled in the hands of Powell who kept his eyes locked on the ball at long-on and the ball was sent miles into the Karachi night-sky, he tumbled but made sure the ball remains safely inside his hands. It was a well-disguised slower delivery in his hitting arc, he took the bait and slugged it downtown, didn't look like he got enough and he has to go. Still some batting to come, can Anwar Ali roll the years back and hit a few out of the park?

Kieron Pollard c Powell b Wood 1 (4b 0x4 0x6 9m) SR: 25
18.3
1
Wood to Irfan Khan, 1 run

Pace-off back of length delivery around the line off, forces it away to mid-off and dashes across to the other end, Karachi need a couple of boundaries, can't leave too many runs in the last over

Taha: "A very interesting conversation on captaincy. I dont want to just sit on the fence but I do believe nobody is really good enough or fit enough to be captain mentally. Performance wise yes babar and rizwan are the most consistent but does that translate to bigger competitions I dont think so. Fact is Misbah was the only last proper captain we had and he was ridiculed all the time as well. The players that we have at present are just not good enough to back any captain."

18.2
1
Wood to Pollard, 1 run

Aiming for the wide yorker, almost in the blockhole, pushed down the carpet to long-on

Think there was some distraction and Pollard backs away, Luke Wood is not amused at all, he has to go back to his bowling mark and try again

18.1
1
Wood to Irfan Khan, 1 run

Nails the wide yorker just inside the tramline on off, manages to stab it away to deep wide third man, that won't hurt Zalmi

Danish: "Babar is an exceptional batsman with brilliant technique and skill set unlike his leadership/captaincy where he lacks almost everything."

17.6
Naveen-ul-Haq to Pollard, no run

Hits the deck hard and gets it to lift insanely, it's also away from his long levers, tries to cut but is beaten by the pace...ends the over with a crucial, I've a feeling this is going down to the wire like all of the games in the last few days

17.5
1
Naveen-ul-Haq to Irfan Khan, 1 run

Backing into the leg side to make room and scythes this slower length ball behind point, big delivery coming up next

17.4
4
Naveen-ul-Haq to Irfan Khan, FOUR runs

Don't go anywhere because this game is not over yet, Irfan Niazi slugs this full ball over long-off for a six, hits it clean as a whistle, such a sweet timer of the ball, power and precision!

17.3
1lb
Naveen-ul-Haq to Pollard, 1 leg bye

More drama! Tad short and jags back sharply from outside off, he slinks forward and tries to tuck it away but ends up getting thumped on the pads, Haris is saying not to review this but Babar wants to take a chance. Alright, so here's hawk-eye. Impact is outside off and we won't go any further, now Haris may not be having the best day in the field with the gloves but he was spot on with that DRS feedback to his teammates

17.2
W
Naveen-ul-Haq to Malik, OUT

Wrecked the stumps! Came wide of the crease, fractionally shorter and just goes with the angle, uproots the off-stump, that is a cracking delivery, steps up to the plate when his team needed him, this is such a massive breakthrough, it was crucial for Karachi to have him till the end, set batter goes back in the hut. Fired up celebration from Naveen, punched the air in ecstasy, he has produced a crackerjack! Is that the ballgame gone for Karachi?

Clobbered! Short and into the body, gets on top of the bounce and tonked a pull to deep midwicket boundary, Saim had no chance to cut it off, beautiful sound of the bat, this is getting tighter

Attiya: "Rather than finding hero captain, please find suitable bowlers and a capable power hitters in middle order. An average cqptain can work around this in t20!"

Usama: "Interesting discussion taking place. History tells us that one captain for all format is best way for PCT. Shaheen and Rizwan both are really good T20 captains and also impact performers. But in test we all have seen the struggles of Rizwan and Shaheen is injury prone, he knows this too and wasn't leading the pack from the front in Australia. That only leaves Babar. He has learned not only the ropes of captaincy but during his time he built a team too by supporting and nurturing raw talent."

Uzair Hashmi: "Rizwan and Babar are two sides of the same coin! How can people forget the dubious, questionable selections during the World Cup, the last year performances under Babar's captaincy! BIG fan of Babar the player, Babar the captain, not at all!"

16.6

On a length and slanted across off, width is there, clubbed away insolently to deep point, Haris can't pick it up cleanly but no damage done

16.5

Wood to Irfan Khan, 1 run

Takes the pace off, hammered on a length just outside off, wobbling a bit, slashed away behind point
