Pace off the ball, shortish delivery floating wide of off, tries to smoke him downtown and finds Babar at mid-off who takes the regulation catch and seals the deal. Peshawar Zalmi have qualified for the playoffs!
Zalmi vs Gladiators, 25th Match at Rawalpindi, PSL, Mar 08 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Peshawar Zalmi have peaked at the right time. The batting revolves around Babar Azam, who seldom disappoints. The late onslaught pushed the score to 196 which proved to be plenty in the end. We're hoping for a thriller but it was a lackadaisical performance from Quetta Gladiators, who found it tough to negotiate with a pretty balanced bowling attack, which is bolstered by the addition Mehran Mumtaz and Khurram Shehzad - both made the difference in the end. Saim, the man with the golden arm, picked two wickets that triggered a wobble. Aamer Jamal was aggressive and had spring in his legs; he is bowling at better lines after struggling in the first half of the season. Earlier, Akeal Hosein picked up a hattrick but Quetta didn't close out the innings well and Peshawar didn't give up after that frantic over. They got some big overs towards the end. Zalmi carried the momentum into the bowling and registered a domineering win towards the end. Thanks for your company for this match. We will see you tomorrow for the high-octane clash between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. For now, it's goodbye and goodnight from Rvel Zahid.
Saim Ayub, Player of the Match: Enjoying the chance in bowling. I'm getting good start in batting but I have to go long in the innings; it will benefit the team if I bat longer. I'm trying to attack and put an impact early on and if get the flow then I try to keep the momentum even after the powerplay. (playing with Babar) feels great, batting with him since last season, lucky to see him closely while batting with him...
Ijaz: "Pakistan needed good spinner for WC because WC is in WI and WI pitches suit to spin bowling"
Over the wicket, slings a low-full toss and doesn't offer room, slapped to long-off
Spiteful short stuff at middle, he goes deep and looks to ramp it away and ends up gloving it to Haseebullah who grabs it without any fuss. Quetta just one wicket away from a resounding win
Looking leg side playing at off-side, managing a single still, was a short ball at middle and off, forced to cover-point
Shortish at off, slammed a cut but finds the fielder
Pradipto: "Pak 5 batters out of top 6 in T20 WC will be Ayub, Babar, Fakhar, Rizwan n Iftikar. Who will be the 6th batter??? "
Stays in his crease and tries to cut that away, was a length ball that turned away fractionally outside off, it's another top-notch spell from Mehran, Peshawar missed the trick by introducing him so late in this PSL
Round the wicket, yorked him at middle, clipped to deep backward square (slip in place)
Fired it quicker and fuller on a tight off-stump line, squirted towards point
Length and angling in at middle, looked to slug it over midwicket, hasn't got all of it, fielder took the catch cleanly, it's all falling apart quickly for Quetta
Tossed up from over the wicket, Amir went far away from leg stump, tries to reach and can't lay bat on it
Round the wicket, fuller and drifting in at leg, helps it with the angle to deep fine
Goes for the yorker, not quite in the blockhole, Amir reads him well, gives himself room, stays leg-side and spanks it past extra cover for a sizzling boundary
Haider: "Pollard, Munro, Malik, Roy have been amongst many T20 leagues but Babar has scored many more runs than them..... if Babar isnt good enough for the format, what about these four???"
Shortish and nipping in at middle, tucked away to square leg
nabeel: "@Bruce Wayne well I would play the pace trio of Shaheen, Haris and Naseem and include Jamal in place of Nawaz with Ifti and Saim being the other spinners if needed.
Probing line and length, jagged back sharply, inside edge caroms over to point
Good length, gun-barrel straight, shanked back to the bowler
Thumped as hard as he could into the surface and extracts plenty of purchase from it, now that is too short and it's a wide
Short and a touch wide, makes room and aerially stabs that away to Khurram at deep third
Steered to deep third
Aftab: "This match is going to send PCB selectors to drawing board for sure."
Round the wicket, fuller on middle, gets right behind the line and drills it in the V for a four, powerfully played down the ground, looked organised while playing that shot
Shortens his length, it's floating just outside off, deft touch to deep third earns him a boundary
