The first day of the inaugural Test between Netherlands and South Africa was blighted by poor weather which meant that only 58.2 overs were possible. In that time South Africa, who were stuck in, reached 159 for 5 with Daleen Terblanche leading the resistance with an unbeaten 60.
Terblanche and her namesake Claire Terblanche gave South Africa a solid start with an opening partnership of 72, but thereafter Netherlands fought back well once Mandy Kornet had made the breakthrough with her country's first Test wicket.
Their bowlers continued belied their inexperience at this level, with Jolet Hartenhof and Caroline de Fouw taking two wickets apiece. In fairness, South Africa are hardly veterans at this level, either - with only ten Tests under their belt, and the last one four years ago - but they are the superior side. And they are a strong side, too, with only Shandre Fritz missing.
