Chanders gets the winning runs with a tap to the square leg region. They have won the series. The players in the dressing room erupt in joy. Mahela shakes hands with Chanderpaul. Game over.
West Indies vs Sri Lanka, 2nd ODI at Port of Spain, Apr 12 2008 - Ball by Ball Commentary
West Indies won by 7 wickets (with 27 balls remaining) (D/L method)
Chris Gayle comes out and envelops his batsmen with a big bear hug. He then greets the Sri Lankans with a handshake. And the West Indian players go now for a celebratory walk around the ground. Just like they did after the Test match here.
Mahela: You can't predict the weather. We batted thinking we will be playing 50 overs. We tried our best to see if we can get West Indies all out but the middle order played well. We couldn't penetrate that lower middle order. On Chanders: We bowled at him well in the Test matches but he has come back strongly.
We will try to leave West Indies with a win in the next game.
Gayle I was a bit scared after losing three wickets but Chanderpaul and Samuels, came into the party today. Credit must be given to everyone in the squad, management. Everyone who didn't get a chance will get to play in the next game. Even the coach might get to play!
Man of the Match: Shiv it is. Chanderpaul is the man. "Let me thank God Shiva. Without his blessings, this wouldn't be possible. My family is here.
...I know Marlon was struggling, I tried to help him out there, coaxing along and get a start. Once he got that, it would be a different game for us. I put everything to God's work.
And with that, this is good bye from me, Sriram Veera, and my scorer, Srinivas Raju. See you in the next game. Good night and good luck.
outside the off stump, stays back to force it to right of covers
tucked behind square leg
another one really full, samuels gets his fifty with a drive to left of mid-on and he celebrates in fury. He punches the air, almost in anger, raises his bat to the pavilion and then punches the bat forcefully in the air. Chanders rushes across to hug him. This is about proving a point. This knock obviously means a lot to him
another one almost at the blockhole, defended to the off side
It's getting darker out there but Windies just need seven more.
yorker length, just outside off, stabbed to point
high bouncer and Samuels ducks
short in length, around the off stump and Chanderpaul brings his fifty up with a cut to right of covers
low full toss, driven to left of deep cover.
Full in length, outside the off stump and Chanders clears mid-off but he had sliced it a bit and hence, it didn't go the full distance
That one has been deposited to the upper tire at the long-off stands. It was the loopy googly and Samuels rushed down the track and swung it over the boundary. Super hit that.
on the leg and middle, squeezed to square leg
a tad quicker, just outside off stump, pushed to covers
lovely loopy delivery, Chanders comes down the track and it dips rapidly on him and he pushes it past the bowler
charges down the track and heaves a full delivery one bounce to long-off
Mark kidger: "After the Windies lost the 1st Test you wouldn't have given tuppence for their chances over the next four matches, but it looks like they will take the winning streak to three."
stays back to punch to wide long-off, they think about the second run but decide against it
a touch short of length, outside off, cut past backward point
Clean hit. Lovely swing of the bat. He took out the front leg from the line and hit through the line of a length delivery over long-on. Samuels didn't bother to run and stood and watched the white ball sail over the ropes.
slower one, full and on the middle, mistimes a on drive to left of midwicket. It is pretty dark out there. 30 from 45 balls.
