  • It was West Indies' 424th and South Africa's 229th match.
  • It was the 25th match between the two sides. The record now reads : West Indies 8, South Africa 17.
  • Umpires Steve Bucknor and Bill Doctrove were officiating in their 83rd and 11th match respectively. This was also the 30th match for Steve Bucknor in home matches which equals the tally of Lloyd Barker.
  • Jonty Rhodes was making his 200th ODI appearance for South Africa. He became first South African and 22nd player overall to do so.
  • Jacques Kallis (69 off 147 ballsscoring rate 46.94) played the slowest innings of his career in a match in which he has made a fifty.. He had taken 105 balls for his 57 runs (scoring rate 54.29) against England at Bloemfontein on 23-01-2000.
  • Kallis' scoring rate is the slowest by a South African scoring at least 50 runs in an innings. The previous record was on the name of Hansie Cronje who played 113 balls for his 56 runs (SR 49.56) against England at Johannesburg on 1999-00. The accompanying table has the details:

  • Just for the information, the ODI record of worst scoring rate for a batsman (with 50 runs) in an innings is on the name of Pakistan's Javed Miandad who took as many as 170 balls for his 63* runs (scoring rate 37.05) against West Indies at Perth on 01-01-1989.
  • The catch of Kallis was ninth for Brian Lara against South Africa. He has now taken most catches in the field for West Indies against South Africa alongwith Keith Arthurton.
  • Cameron Cuffy (3-24) equalled the best figures for West Indies in a match at home soil against South Africa. Curtly Ambrose had the identical figures at Port-of-Spain on 11-04-1992.
  • The wicket of Chris Gayle was 10th for Kallis in the series. With already 298 runs under his belt, Kallis became only the third South African to complete the allround double of 250 runs and 10 wickets in a series (or tournament).
