Two members of the West Indies cricket squad touring England have been
granted temporary release from duty following the second Test against
England which starts at Lord's next Thursday.
Tour selectors and management have agreed to a request from fast bowler,
Curtly Ambrose, that he be released during the One-Day International
triangular series involving the West Indies, Zimbabwe and the host country.
The 36-year-old will return to Antigua for that period (July 4-23) and
rejoin the West Indies cricketers in time for the third Test
(August 3-7) at Old Trafford.
The decision to relieve Ambrose from playing these One-Day matches is in
keeping with the policy of not playing both himself and Courtney Walsh
together in the abbreviated version of the game.
In addition, vice-captain Sherwin Campbell has been granted a few days off to return home to Barbados for the expected birth of his child. He will be away from the squad between July 4 and 7 and will return to England to take part in the One-Day series which concludes July 22 with the final at Lord's in London.
