Lahore, Sept 21: Ata-ur-Rahman in another statement, before the
one-man judicialcommission, probing match-fixing allegations on some
Pakistani cricketers, said that he recorded his early statement
against captain Wasim Akram on the advice of Aamir Sohail.
Recording his fresh statement before the commission, headed by Justice
Malik Muhammad Qayyum on Tuesday, Ata-ur-Rahman
said that he did so according to Aamir Sohail's wishes, who was
interested in becoming captain of the team.
Ata changed his statement when the learned judge called him in his
chamber and played an audio cassette which was provided by
wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif, who also appeared before the judge
on Tuesday.
Ata, instead of negating or accepting his voice in the cassette, said
he recorded his early statement on the advice of Aamir Sohail.
Justice Qayyum warned Ata-ur-Rahman that he could be punished for
seven year for changing his statements time and again. However,
Ata-ur-Rahman tendered apology.
Ata in his early statement had blamed Wasim Akram for offering him Rs
one lakh for bowling badly in a match.
Justice Qayyum besides calling Ata-ur-Rahman and Rashid Latif also
summoned Salim Malik, one of the accused players, to appear before the
commission on Sept 23 at 10 am.
