Attacking effort by England secures 96 run win

In a match that could prove crucial in the unlikely event that Pakistan are unable to field a team for tomorrow's semi finals because of an injury that Shahid Afridi is carrying, both England and Zimbabwe will want to win this encounter.

Zimbabwe batting first found themselves in all sorts of problems. Although they started their innings with much purpose, they lost wickets regularly and paid dearly with the attendant penalties.

In the end, the Zimbabweans ended up with a net score of 16 runs from their eight overs, with Guy Whittall scoring -21 runs, and Alistair Campbell getting 36 runs.

For England, Adam Hollioake had figures of six for 31, while Andrew Flintoff ended with one for 51.

In reply to Zimbabwe, the England duo set about their task in an ultra attacking mood. The English duo were in punishing form. Together, they amassed the highest total of the competition, getting 112 runs from their eight overs. Both batsmen scored half centuries, with Hollioake getting 56 and Flintoff also getting 56. There were no Extras in the England innings.

England therefore won by 96 runs, and can now only hope that Pakistan are unable to field a team for tomorrow's semi final and would therefore be promoted for the second semi final.
