†AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES 1984-85

At Melbourne, February 10

15-Apr-1986
At Melbourne, February 10. West Indies won by four wickets when Dujon hit successive off side boundaries off the first two balls of the final over from Hogg. It was a magnificent match, and until Logie and Dujon came together Australia held the upper hand. Their highest total in the tournament against West Indies, coming after Lloyd had put them in, was based on an opening partnership of 135 in 30 overs between Smith and Wood and a boisterous 56 from 37 balls by Phillips. Garner and Marshall both conceded 60 runs for the first time in a one-day international. Haynes and Richardson, who had replaced the injured Greenidge in the finals, gave West Indies the ideal start with 78 in sixteen overs, and Gomes consolidated with a confident 47. However, O'Donnell dismissed both Richardson and Gomes, and Lawson, returning early for his final spell, removed Richards and Lloyd cheaply. When Lloyd went in the 37th over, West Indies were 92 behind. But Lawson exhausted his allotted overs in the 39th. Logie (60 off 56 balls with five 4s) and Dujon then unleashed strokes in all directions and ran skilfully to make victory possible. Luck was on their side as Logie was dropped at 28 and 32, and there were several close shaves between the wickets.
