Bangladesh v South Africa

15-Apr-2004

At Dhaka, April 17, 2003 (day/night). South Africa won by 93 runs. South Africa 6 pts. Toss: South Africa. One-day international debut: Mohammad Salim.
This was an efficient win with optional frills not included. Tapash Baisya struck early with his slingy fast-medium, and he and Manjurul Islam regularly zipped the ball past the outside edge. But Smith dealt clinically with the short and the wide, Rudolph stocked up on singles and South Africa ground to 183 after 40 overs. Pollock added his customary late boost, belting a 20-ball 38, and then bowled a precise six-over spell of two for 14 now he had the new ball. At 29 for four Bangladesh were finished, but Alok Kapali followed his impressive spell of floaty leg-spin with a compact, correct innings of 71, and Bangladesh reached respectability despite tight bowling and niggardly fielding.
Man of the Match: S. M. Pollock.
