20-Apr-2005
The Americas team lost to Barbados by 10 wickets in the last session of the final days play at Sabina Park.
The match reduced to two days due to Hurricane Charlie was controlled by the America's team for a majority of the game. However some fine bowling from Kevin Stoute (10-3-11-6) reduced the America's to a modest 2nd innings total of 68 all out in less than 27 overs.
The America's started the day off in fine style taking two early wickets early on to leave Barbados reeling at 69/7. It was left to Payne and Yearwood to out on 30 for the eighth wicket with Yearwood contributing 13 valuable runs. Payne and Brathwaite made the America's struggle and they edged closer to a first innings lead with a solid 53 run ninth wicket partnership before Brathwaite was run out for 20. Needing five runs for first innings points, last batsmen Pinder pushed the ball through the covers to give Barbados first innings points. They declared their innings on 157/9 with a one run lead.
The America's started their second innings in similar fashion to the Barbados first innings loosing three quick wickets to leave them in desperate trouble at 8/3 with Gibran Rahaman (0), Jasjet Mangat (0) and Karum Jethi (5) back in the pavilion.
Ali Shafi and Soham Anjaria managed to put on 29 for the fourth wicket to give the America's score some respectability. Shafi was out lbw to Kevin Stoute for a well played 16.
Things did not improve for the America's with Ronald Ebanks (0), Akhil Pathan (1), Hasan Aziz (2), Keniel Williams (0) falling to the bowling of Stoute.
Soham Anjaria was the only batsmen who managed to fight back with a gutsy innings of 38 before he fell caught at point off the bowling of Brathwaite.
The America's ended their innings on 68 all out when Faizan Syed was given out lbw to Stoute for 0.
Apart from Kevin Stoute, both opening bowlers Yearwood (4-0-15-2) and Brathwaite (10-1-27-2) provided some valuable support.
Set 67 runs to win in 24 overs left in the day, Barbados started in positive fashion with both openers playing their shots to keep the score board rolling on. They managed to pass the total without the loss of a wicket with Ronaldo Paris (26 not out) and Omar Philips (35 not out). Barbados thus won the match by 10 wickets taking them through into the semi finals which will start on Sunday.
In the other group match, Jamaica secured a draw against the Windward Islands securing the other semi final spot.
