The premier League opener between Singha SC and BRC was an one sided affair, with BRC being runaway winners. Having been put into bat Singha could only manage 185 in their allotted 42 overs. BRC made the target look easy with a century partnership between Manoj Mendis and Chaminda Hadunhettige. BRC eventually knocked off the runs in 34 overs for the loss of 2 wickets.
The highlight of the match was a fluent 90 by BRC number three batsman, Manoj Mendis. BRC opener Chaminda Hadunhettige, who had retired earlier because of a leg injury, came back and made an undefeated 42.
When Manoj Mendis hits, he packs a punch. The three rasping boundaries he scored in the 16th over were a treat to watch. Not to be undone, Hadunhettige matched Manoj Mendis stroke for stroke.
The Singha SC bowling looked Pedestrian. They threw in the towel in the 16th over of the BRC innings with the score at 110 for 2.
Man to man Singha SC were outmatched by BRC. IN the field they were impressive. Ex. Sri Lankan pace bowler, Sujeewa de Silva, looked to be in good form and he picked up two wickets. Hadunhettige and Warnapura grabbed 3 wickets apiece with their military medium seamers and cutters.
