The Technical Committee of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 has approved Gary Brent as a replacement player for Terry Duffin in Zimbabwe's squad, ahead of its final match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2006.
All-rounder Brent replaces batsman and former captain Duffin, who has been unwell for much of the past week. He has not played in either of Zimbabwe's two matches in the tournament, the defeats against the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
Brent is the fourth replacement player approved by the Technical Committee and the second Zimbabwean after Tafadzwa Mufambisi replaced Vusi Sibanda when the latter was unable to secure a release from a club cricket contract in Australia. The other replacements thus far are Faisal Iqbal of Pakistan, who has replaced the suspended Inzamam-ul-Haq while Australia's Dan Cullen has come in for Stuart Clark, who missed out with a thigh injury.
Zimbabwe's final match in the tournament is Friday's encounter with Bangladesh in Jaipur. Both sides are searching for their first win of this year's ICC Champions Trophy and neither line-up can qualify for the second round with the West Indies and Sri Lanka already having secured their passage to that stage.
The Technical Committee of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 is made of the following personnel: David Richardson (chairman, ICC representative), Campbell Jamieson (IDI representative), Ian Bishop (independent nomination), Rameez Raja (independent nomination), MP Pandove (BCCI representative), Prof. R Shetty (tournament director).
