Greg Chappell and Tom Moody are in the running to replace John Wright as India's coach after they were on a four-man short-list released yesterday. Mohinder Amarnath and Sandeep Patil, two of the heroes of India's 1983 World Cup-winning side, were the other contenders.
Ranbir Singh Mahendra, the president of India's board, said the interview process would be completed before June 15, when the new coach would be named. "He will be there at least till the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies," he told AFP.
Chappell was interviewed for the position before Wright's stint began while Moody, who coaches English county Worcestershire, was a World Cup winner in 1987 and 1999. Patil inspired a Kenyan charge to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2003, and also enjoyed success in charge of the India A team. Amarnath's coaching resume includes a stint in Bangladesh.
