Robert Croft has resigned as Glamorgan's captain after four seasons in charge. He will be replaced by David Hemp, who will take charge for this Sunday's Pro40 match.

Croft took over as Glamorgan skipper in 2003 and guided them to the National League title in his first season, but since then he has struggled with a young side and in 2005 Glamorgan were relegated in the County Championship.

"I've always believed each person who holds the position would know the right time to pass over the reins," Croft explained. "I have held the position with unimaginable pride and experienced great moments both on and off the field. In standing down at this time it gives the club the opportunity to make an appointment for the longer term." Croft has two years remaining on his contract

Hemp, who has recently qualified for Bermuda and could play for them in the World Cup next March, said: "I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to captain Glamorgan, though naturally these are not the circumstances I would have wished for. Having been senior professional I know the difficulties that Robert has had to deal with and his reasons for standing down."
